At home, sick today. Mild form of flu, apparently. No fever, but achy neck, head is pounding, and chest is congested. After getting GW off to work, went back to bed and slept the entire morning. Still achy and tired. Checking in here long enough to do this and the QoD, then work e-mails, then more drugs and back to bed.

Had turned off the phone ringer in the bedroom, but vaguely heard the thing go off from the other room. Message from Mom. Through my BIL, she got the phone and e-mail of a rabbi we know, the one who did my dad's funeral at the last minute and who has visited Mom in the hospital. He is willing to do the ceremony if we need him, with the proviso that there be no mention of Jesus. No idea how FSIL or his family would feel about that. Will have to let BD know to pass it on and get the reaction. Would still prefer if FSIL would locate an Armed Forces chaplain of some sort. He (FSIL) needs to take part in this game, more than just showing up at the end and carrying off my daughter.

Sounds like a reasonable restriction for an ecumenical service, particularly if FSIL has no strong religious convictions, himself.

Dr Dick found the 'guy' who performed our wedding. He says he told him it needed to be ecumenical as he and his family are Jewish and me and my family..... well... not so much anything. Anywho, the 'guy' did the whole service without a mention of Jesus, until the very end, when he went on automatic and blessed our union in the name of Jesus Christ, Our Lord.

This is a good reason to use the rabbi instead of one of the Army chaplains; the rabbi is very unlikely to make that "automatic" mistake.
