I'll be on WOF Friday

#1 Post by Rafferbee » Thu Oct 23, 2014 11:16 am

Technically, it won't air in Baltimore until 2 a.m. Saturday because of the World Series. My hometown paper interviewed me. http://www.mpnnow.com/article/20141022/NEWS/141029837

I'm looking forward to it. Does WOF give every contestant a photo posed with the host(s) as Jeopardy currently does?

I can't wait to watch. Your WOF pictures are very nice. Will you post a tape day synopsis for us? Are you from Farmington, Michigan or was that a Canadian city? I predict you won big and got the prize puzzle.

So what is the secret to passing that audition puzzle test?

Not here you won't, sadly. I think I have to program the old VCR (which is what I still use) for the overnight on Saturday. Here, its All Patriots All the Time in the previously WOF/J! hour Friday eve. And on Thursday, they intro the CBS Football Night with something else Football, probably about the Patriots, & kick J! up to 7:00am, WOF's slot. And probably put WOF into the overnight Friday morn. Wreaks havoc with programming by time slot, the only way I can do it with my equipment.

Sadly, no. They take a picture of everyone with the Wheel, but no one of me with Pat Sajak. I had to content myself with their cardboard cutouts.

I played the facebook game and kept trying to solve the puzzle as soon as possible, and I started doing crossword puzzles a few months before.

Gloom, despair, and agony on me.
Deep dark depression
Excessive misery.
If it weren't for bad luck
I'd have to luck at all . . .
Gloom, despair, and agony on me

Sorry, Megan! After those first two tossups, I know you were the best player, but no luck. Well, you had luck, but it was bad. You were great! Hope you got lovely parting gifts.

Sorry I missed your show, but seeing the spoilers, I echo the sentiments of Sprots. I hope it was a fun experience!

Spoiler
You really got screwed by the Wheel itself. Guessing those puzzles (which I can't do even with most of the letters; my Mom was an ace at it, though) is hard enough without "bankrupt, lose a turn" options.

Thanks, guys! My mathemetician brother told me I had a 1 in 4,000 chance of hitting so many bankrupts and Lose a Turns when I spun the wheel, "which is impressive in itself". But I had fun and I got a nice chunk of change anyway. I would have loved to go to Costa Rica, though

It was clear to me that you were the best player, Rafferbee (the sailor guessing "H" after already doing so? What's up with that?) but the wheel was not your friend. Glad you had the chance but sorry you couldn't get to the bonus round.

This is one of those times where it's at least as important to be lucky as good - sorry the Wheel bit you, but you were clearly enjoying yourself, and to get a little bit of fun money to have a great time is a good thing!

It was fun to watch. You did so great with the toss up questions and darn that wheel. Do you get to practice spinning the wheel before you tape? Your hair and makeup looked very nice. Do you have the same glam squad as Vanna? Is the screen behind you a green screen? What is the green room like? Do you get to watch the other shows being taped or is it like BAM.
Did you get to watch a J! taping while you were there.

Congrats!

I give props to you for passing the puzzle test. It is harder than the BAM test.

I did get to practice spinning the wheel. You have to be careful not to grasp it too near the bottom or you'll hit the spinners. It is very heavy and hard to move. I had the same make-up artist as I had on Jeopardy!, Sandy. They didn't do hair, and Vanna has her own personal make-up artist and hairdresser. The screen behind me looked just as it does on TV.

The green room was nice, and we were able to go between it and the audience. They brought us in pizza during the lunch break. I got to watch the other shows before I taped, and uly and I stayed to watch the last show of the day, which will air November 28th. I didn't watch a J! taping, but I did get to go to O'Brien's Pub quiz when I was there, which was most fun.
