RIP Oscar Taveras
The Cardinals top outfield prospect was killed along with his girlfriend in an auto accident in the Dominican. He was only 22....

That's awful. So unfair.

Many sources, including the one below, regarded him as one of the majors' top prospects, not just the Cards. RIP.

Evansville Evil Quarks had him in the BBBL. I wonder if he would have been a keeper. Maybe not, but I'm sure he would have been drafted early.

His friend, SF Giant Juan Perez, was heartbroken, but still came through with a big hit in Game 5.

It also brings a rather awkwardly untimely end to the drama over what St. Louis was going to do with their five outfielders who are all capable of starting. There was some speculation that despite his promise, that Taveras might be the one to get traded since he's been a disappointment so far, and had already worked his way into the manager's doghouse over a questionable work ethic (His name was first brought up when the Cards had interest in acquiring David Price back in July)...
I'm not sure if any of the other teams can match the Cardinals' dubious distinction of having three active players die so far this century.... the last two in car accidents...
