James Bond made his first appearance on television in a one-hour version of Casino Royale that was shown on the anthology series Climax. Barry Nelson played an American agent, Jimmy Bond, while Peter Lorre played the villainous Le Chiffre. The plot was actually fairly close to the plot of the novel, which had only been written a year earlier, with Bond trying to bankrupt Le Chiffre at baccarat so that his enemies will do away with him.
