Chase Chicago audition

#1 Post by grebelschnitz » Fri Sep 26, 2014 11:23 am

After someone posted last month about the upcoming Chase auditions, I went over to their website and applied. They wanted a headshot attached to the application; based on the comments on this board, I figured that alone would disqualify me. I never received an email confirmation, and I forgot all about it.

...until yesterday, when I got a voicemail confirming that I have a 10am "appointment" tomorrow at the W Hotel. I'll go for s***s and giggles. I was wondering how it would work if I taped an episode that would somehow air before my BAM episode. Their eligilibilty requirements say nothing about not appearing on a game show in the past 12 months, and technically, I haven't "appeared" because my show hasn't aired (and I haven't been told my air date). Their website still shows their tape dates for spring 2014; assuming they'll do something similar in 2015, I will have plenty of time to decide how, or if, to proceed.

I do know of one person who was on WWTBAM and then was told by the Chase that they were uncomfortable with the short amount of time between that and when he would have been on. However, there were at least two people who went on WWTBAM after appearing on The Chase (Jackie Fox and Steve Kaltenbaugh) last season, so the reverse works.

I passed the written test and went through a round of multiple-choice questions, but I didn't get a callback for more auditioning today. This was a good thing for a number of reasons.

First off, auditions are at a nice hotel just down the street from Soldier Field, where the Bears and Packers were playing today, so driving and parking were going to be a nightmare; yesterday I paid $25 for a parking garage whose outside sign did not indicate that the $13 Early Bird special was not valid on weekends. Second, to my surprise, taping is going to run from the end of October to the end of November; considering that Season 3 had taped in March-April, I expected Season 4 to tape in the same timeframe. Finally, I didn't have deal with the issue whether I could tape this show while not knowing when my BAM episode airs.

On the other hand, Colby Burnett was also auditioning, and it was fun talking with him. Jim "Bud" Humphrey, another J! winner from about 9 years ago, was auditioning too, and another auditioner is going to email me with information on how to join up with some local trivia leagues.

The contestant coordinator said that we would be kept on file in case they want to use us for some of GSN's other game shows. I've looked to see what else they offer and want nothing to do with those other shows.

Idiot Test has become a guilty pleasure.

I'll be going to The Chase audition in Boston (again!) on 10/11. I thought my last audition went very well, I kept getting called back for subsequent interviews/mock games/etc. But...nada. We'll see what happens this time.

I was scheduled to audition for the Chase at 1PM, however the Metra line I was supposed to ride was delayed over an hour because a freight train was disabled while making a track change so it was blocking all of the tracks. I gave up once I realized I wouldn't make it in time. Maybe it was a sign.

They would almost certainly have let you try out at a later time. You can still make a video, AFAIK.
