Son dashing out of the house to catch his bus. Throws storm door open and takes off like he always does. When he gets clear of door, I go out after him. Make mental note that there's a thing with a sort of bushy tail running down the stairs. Have to go, can't deal at that moment.

Neighbor offers to lend me her cat, who is supposedly good with this type of thing. (Though, she (the cat) is also the reason I know that Kalamazoo doesn't have civil fines for anything other than traffic/parking violations. Same cat got into a fight with another cat a few years ago and my friend ended up on misdemeanor charges because that's how things work here for some reason.)

That was the plan, i.e. to let it lie until after work.

Until the damn thing ran into my office.

5 min of broom-chasing and Mrs. Fly holding the front door open and it's Bobby 1, chipmunk 0. Though it's still alive, and I assume it will continue to eat our entire garden for years to come.

I related my garden-eating squirrel story to LB, and while he was happy that I live-trapped an entire five-squirrel family and relocated them "down the river," so to speak, he continues to insist to this day that I should have allowed the little wretches to eat from the bounty of my garden and reside comfortably in the neighbor's woodpile.

My advice: Buy a live trap at the local hardware store and relocate the little wretches somewhere near the river at least five miles away.
