August Lyrically Speaking Day 16: Bonus song challenge
August LS Day 16 Bam Bored Song Challenge
I got enough great ideas from your responses last week that I went ahead and put together another song challenge for this last Monday of the game. As usual, my song and artist are worth one point apiece, and you can provide your own choice of song and artist that matches the challenge for an additional point. For the one that says "from a given year," I identified my year, but you don't have to choose the same year for your bonus. For the one about sharing a song that probably nobody knows, try searching your song on youtube, and if a version exists, post the youtube link for us so we can all hear it. I'll try to do that for mine when I post the answers.
1. A Song you want to turn up loud
All over the country
I’ve seen it the same
Nobody’s winning
At this kind of game
2. A song that makes you dance in your chair
You hear the door slam and realize there's nowhere left to run
You feel the cold hand and wonder if you'll ever see the sun
3. A Song by a memorable act you've seen live
Singing so they hear what's on your mind,
And when you look around you'll find
There's more than
4. Song that makes you think of your best friend
So you got everything, aw but nothing's cool
They just found your father in the swimming pool
And you guess you won't be going back to school
Anymore.
5. A song that makes you think of your first crush
Two hearts
Two hearts that beat as one
Our lives had just begun
Forever
I'll hold you close in my arms
I can't resist your charms
6. Song you love by an artist you hate
Don't wanna hear you say
Ain't nothin' but a heartache
Ain't nothin' but a mistake (don't wanna hear you say)
I never wanna hear you say (oh, yeah)
7. Song you hate by your favorite artist
Bobby's drivin' through the city tonight
Through the lights in a hot new rent-a-car
He joins the lovers in his heavy machine
It's a scene down on Sunset Boulevard
8. A song from a certain year. – 1991, in my case. Birth of my first son.
Something's wrong, shut the light
Heavy thoughts tonight
And they aren't of snow white
Dreams of war, dreams of liars
Dreams of dragon's fire
And of things that will bite
9. A song that puts you in a party mood
The exodus is here
The happy ones are near
Let's get together
Before we get much older
10. A song that makes you ponder the meaning of life
We don't need no education
We don't need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
11. A song that nobody has probably ever heard of that you just want to share
If all you had to do each day
Was wake up and go out to play
And shake the hand of all the world
Especially every boy and girl.
12. a song you sing to keep you awake while driving
And I'm here to prove to you
That we can party on the positive side
And pump positive vibes
So come along for the ride
Making you feel the rhythm is my occupation

Spoiler
1. A Song you want to turn up loud
All over the country
I’ve seen it the same
Nobody’s winning
At this kind of game
Some song I know...
LB's Pick: Big Balls - AC/DC
2. A song that makes you dance in your chair
You hear the door slam and realize there's nowhere left to run
You feel the cold hand and wonder if you'll ever see the sun
Thriller - Michael Jackson
LB's Pick: Dangerous - Big Data (I listened to it enough on YouTube after discovering it via the Mecca Muzak that I've done plenty of chair dancing to it...)
3. A Song by a memorable act you've seen live
Singing so they hear what's on your mind,
And when you look around you'll find
There's more than
LB's Pick: Part of the Plan - Dan Fogelberg (Anyone who's played my LSWE enough should know by now that Fogelberg's the only concert I've ever seen... so he has to go here by default.)
4. Song that makes you think of your best friend
So you got everything, aw but nothing's cool
They just found your father in the swimming pool
And you guess you won't be going back to school
Anymore.
LB's Pick: Keep Your Hands To Yourself - Georgia Satellites (It was either this one, or a song off Bon Jovi's "New Jersey", because he was constantly listening to that tape. He was singing this song constantly back in its heyday, though...)
5. A song that makes you think of your first crush
Two hearts
Two hearts that beat as one
Our lives had just begun
Forever
I'll hold you close in my arms
I can't resist your charms
LB's Pick: Orange Crush - REM (I really can't think of a single girl from back in the day i associate a song with...)
6. Song you love by an artist you hate
Don't wanna hear you say
Ain't nothin' but a heartache
Ain't nothin' but a mistake (don't wanna hear you say)
I never wanna hear you say (oh, yeah)
Something tells me I should know this...
LB's Pick: Like the Weather - 10,000 Maniacs (YAY! I know I suggested this challenge, though not officially...)
7. Song you hate by your favorite artist
Bobby's drivin' through the city tonight
Through the lights in a hot new rent-a-car
He joins the lovers in his heavy machine
It's a scene down on Sunset Boulevard
LB's Pick: Come Sail Away - Styx (I don't really have a favorite artist, but I do love Styx and absolutely hate that song...)
8. A song from a certain year. – 1991, in my case. Birth of my first son.
Something's wrong, shut the light
Heavy thoughts tonight
And they aren't of snow white
Dreams of war, dreams of liars
Dreams of dragon's fire
And of things that will bite
LB's Pick: Love Will Keep Us Together - Captain & Tenille (From 1975, and it was the #1 song in July of that year when I was born...)
9. A song that puts you in a party mood
The exodus is here
The happy ones are near
Let's get together
Before we get much older
LB's Pick: Macho Man - Village People (Really, just about anything by The Village People. Say what you will about them, but their music was flat out fun to listen to...)
10. A song that makes you ponder the meaning of life
We don't need no education
We don't need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Another Brick in the Wall - Pink Floyd
LB's Pick: One Tin Soldier - Coven
11. A song that nobody has probably ever heard of that you just want to share
If all you had to do each day
Was wake up and go out to play
And shake the hand of all the world
Especially every boy and girl.
LB's Pick: Movin' On - Missouri
I think this may be the ultimate regional hit here in the Midwest... particularly here in the St. Louis era where it holds the honorable distinction of being a "KSHE Klassic." I'm not sure if it got played at all outside of the band's namesake state. It's a really great song, and I remember it got played once on old school Mecca Radio in the middle of the night, which I thought was cool! BTW, I really miss those old "Welcome To MIssouri" signs that all got replaced sometime in the 90's... they far outshined the crap Illinois put on our side of the river...
12. a song you sing to keep you awake while driving
And I'm here to prove to you
That we can party on the positive side
And pump positive vibes
So come along for the ride
Making you feel the rhythm is my occupation
LB's Pick: Turn Up The Radio - Autograph (Really, just turning up the radio loud is my trick to staying awake while driving. I do have a couple good speakers left in the LBN....)
All over the country
I’ve seen it the same
Nobody’s winning
At this kind of game
Some song I know...
LB's Pick: Big Balls - AC/DC
2. A song that makes you dance in your chair

My pick: Bohemian Rhapsody, Queen
2. A song that makes you dance in your chair
You hear the door slam and realize there's nowhere left to run
You feel the cold hand and wonder if you'll ever see the sun
Thriller, Michael Jackson
My pick: Start Me Up, Rolling Stones
3. A Song by a memorable act you've seen live
Singing so they hear what's on your mind,
And when you look around you'll find
There's more than
My pick: How do you make love stay? Dan Fogelberg. I heard this song performed live for the first time and predicted it would be a hit.
4. Song that makes you think of your best friend
So you got everything, aw but nothing's cool
They just found your father in the swimming pool
And you guess you won't be going back to school
Anymore.
Captain Jack, Billy Joel
My pick: Orinoco Flow, Celtic Woman
5. A song that makes you think of your first crush
Two hearts
Two hearts that beat as one
Our lives had just begun
Forever
I'll hold you close in my arms
I can't resist your charms
Endless Love, Mariah Carey
My pick: Poor Side of Town, Johnny Rivers
6. Song you love by an artist you hate
Don't wanna hear you say
Ain't nothin' but a heartache
Ain't nothin' but a mistake (don't wanna hear you say)
I never wanna hear you say (oh, yeah)
My pick: I can't say I hate this artist, but listening to any song they recorded is like chalk on a blackboard. Except this one: No Sugar Tonight, The Guess Who
7. Song you hate by your favorite artist
Bobby's drivin' through the city tonight
Through the lights in a hot new rent-a-car
He joins the lovers in his heavy machine
It's a scene down on Sunset Boulevard
My pick: Again, I can't say this is my favorite artist, but I love some of the songs on Fleetwood Mac's Bare Trees. I shoulda put one of them for turning the radio up. Oh well. And then there's this one: Thoughts on a Grey Day, Fleetwood Mac
8. A song from a certain year. – 1991, in my case. Birth of my first son.
Something's wrong, shut the light
Heavy thoughts tonight
And they aren't of snow white
Dreams of war, dreams of liars
Dreams of dragon's fire
And of things that will bite
My pick: I'll take 1990, the year I married SteelersFan: Where've you Been, Kathy Mattea. It may have been released in 1989, I dunno.
9. A song that puts you in a party mood
The exodus is here
The happy ones are near
Let's get together
Before we get much older
My pick: Rock around the clock, Bill Haley and the Comets
10. A song that makes you ponder the meaning of life
We don't need no education
We don't need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Hey! Teachers! Leave them kids alone.
I dunno title or artist.
My pick: Luka, Suzanne Vega
11. A song that nobody has probably ever heard of that you just want to share
If all you had to do each day
Was wake up and go out to play
And shake the hand of all the world
Especially every boy and girl.
My pick: The only way you've ever heard of this one is if you were a long haul trucker back in the 50s-60s, or if you had a boyfriend who picked up Dave Dudley's Thanks for all the Miles tape. I got ONE hit when I tried to google it to share. I Guess You Know Me Pretty Well, Dave Dudley
Just occurred to me that I woulda got lotsa hits for Six Days on the Road, but I bet most of y'all have heard of that one. This isn't my pick, it's just to sample the late, great Dave Dudley.
12. a song you sing to keep you awake while driving
And I'm here to prove to you
That we can party on the positive side
And pump positive vibes
So come along for the ride
Making you feel the rhythm is my occupation
My pick: Running on Empty, Jackson Browne

Something's wrong, shut the light
Heavy thoughts tonight

Dreams of war, dreams of liars
Dreams of dragon's fire
And of things that will bite
Mine: Sister Golden Hair - America (1975, the year I graduated from high school)
9. A song that puts you in a party mood
The exodus is here
The happy ones are near
Let's get together
Before we get much older
Mine: Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting - Elton John
10. A song that makes you ponder the meaning of life
We don't need no education
We don't need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Another Brick In The Wall - Pink Floyd
Mine: Good Time Charlie's Got The Blues - Danny O'Keefe
11. A song that nobody has probably ever heard of that you just want to share

Was wake up and go out to play
And shake the hand of all the world
Especially every boy and girl.
Mine: Dark Eyed Cajun Woman - Doobie Brothers
12. a song you sing to keep you awake while driving
And I'm here to prove to you
That we can party on the positive side
And pump positive vibes
So come along for the ride
Making you feel the rhythm is my occupation
Mine: Born To Run - Bruce Springsteen
All over the country
I’ve seen it the same
Nobody’s winning
At this kind of game
Free Ride
Mine: Born To Be Wild - Steppenwolf

You hear the door slam and realize there's nowhere left to run
You feel the cold hand and wonder if you'll ever see the sun
3. A Song by a memorable act you've seen live
Singing so they hear what's on your mind,
And when you look around you'll find
There's more than
Mine: Nights In White Satin - Moody Blues
We saw them in 2005, when we were both 47, and we were practically the youngest people there.

Spoiler
There are quite a few songs that I might have posted to this thread that I have posted elsewhere. So, eliminating duplication as much as possible:
1. A Song you want to turn up loud
All over the country
I’ve seen it the same
Nobody’s winning
At this kind of game
Mr. K: Pass
AD: Get Out Of Denver - Bob Seger
2. A song that makes you dance in your chair
You hear the door slam and realize there's nowhere left to run
You feel the cold hand and wonder if you'll ever see the sun
Mr. K: Pass
AD: Make A Circuit With Me - Polecats

AD: Holly Holy - Neil Diamond
4. Song that makes you think of your best friend
So you got everything, aw but nothing's cool
They just found your father in the swimming pool
And you guess you won't be going back to school
Anymore.
Mr. K: Captain Jack - Billy Joel
AD: Watching You Watch Him - Eric Hutchinson
The story behind this one: A couple of years ago Wally and I hit the road for our first road trip in thirty years - just the two of us, nobody else in the car for the first time in ages, on our way to Green Bay to join up with the rest of our team for the state Team Trivia championships. Wally was, in fact, a last-minute add-on; he needed a bit of persuasion, but decided it would be fun to give it a shot (he had never played TT, but we had an open spot on the roster, so...) This song was one that was played during the game; I had never heard it before, but it caught my attention to the point where I had to go up and ask the host about the title and artist. We went on to finish in the middle of the pack, and then Wally and I picked up where we left off for the two-hour drive back to Wausau, talking about whatever happened to pop into our minds...a day very well-spent, indeed. And, as it turned out, it was our last day together; the next morning Wally was gone, dead of a heart attack at fifty-five. So...even though the lyrics make no sense within the direct context of the question, this song always reminds me of one last day with my best bud...a gift that very few have ever been blessed to receive, I am sure.
5. A song that makes you think of your first crush
Two hearts
Two hearts that beat as one
Our lives had just begun
Forever
I'll hold you close in my arms
I can't resist your charms

HOLY CRAP!!! mikehardware knew my song!!!!! I didn't even know the Barefoot Jerry version until I started researching it for this game, I only knew it as the signature song of a wonderful American music regional band around here called the Wright Brothers. You can see them in the movie Overboard, and they do several songs on the soundtrack.

I was a teenager in Tennessee during the 1970s, and had Barefoot Jerry on 8 track. Fantastic music. As Charlie Daniels sings, "All the good people down in Tennessee are diggin' Barefoot Jerry and CDB"

Yours: Free Ride - The Edgar Winter Group
Mine: Dreamer - Supertramp
2. A song that makes you dance in your chair
You hear the door slam and realize there's nowhere left to run
You feel the cold hand and wonder if you'll ever see the sun
Yours: Thriller - Michael Jackson
Mine: Last Nite - The Strokes
3. A Song by a memorable act you've seen live
Singing so they hear what's on your mind,
And when you look around you'll find
There's more than
Yours: Nope
Mine: Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd (who did only 7 L.A. shows and 5 NY shows in the U.S. when "The Wall" came out. I saw one of the L.A. shows.)
4. Song that makes you think of your best friend
So you got everything, aw but nothing's cool
They just found your father in the swimming pool
And you guess you won't be going back to school
Anymore.
Yours: Captain Jack - Billy Joel
Mine: The Knife - Genesis
5. A song that makes you think of your first crush
Two hearts
Two hearts that beat as one
Our lives had just begun
Forever
I'll hold you close in my arms
I can't resist your charms
Yours: Endless Love - Lionel Richie
Mine: I Got You - Split Enz
6. Song you love by an artist you hate
Don't wanna hear you say
Ain't nothin' but a heartache
Ain't nothin' but a mistake (don't wanna hear you say)
I never wanna hear you say (oh, yeah)
Yours: I Want It That Way - Backstreet Boys
Mine: Pour Some Sugar on Me - Def Leppard
7. Song you hate by your favorite artist
Bobby's drivin' through the city tonight
Through the lights in a hot new rent-a-car
He joins the lovers in his heavy machine
It's a scene down on Sunset Boulevard
Yours: Nope
Mine: I have no favorite artist, but I've never particularly liked Chocolate Cake by Crowded House
8. A song from a certain year. – 1991, in my case. Birth of my first son.
Something's wrong, shut the light
Heavy thoughts tonight
And they aren't of snow white
Dreams of war, dreams of liars
Dreams of dragon's fire
And of things that will bite
Yours: Enter Sandman - Metallica
Mine: 1988 - Bring Me Some Water - Melissa Etheridge
9. A song that puts you in a party mood
The exodus is here
The happy ones are near
Let's get together
Before we get much older
Yours: Baba O'Riley - The Who
Mine: House of Fun - Madness
10. A song that makes you ponder the meaning of life
We don't need no education
We don't need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Yours: Another Brick in the Wall (Part II)
Mine: Imagine - John Lennon
11. A song that nobody has probably ever heard of that you just want to share
If all you had to do each day
Was wake up and go out to play
And shake the hand of all the world
Especially every boy and girl.
Yours: Nope
Mine: Suddenly - The Bogmen (I saw these guys open for BNL years ago. I liked their song "Raga" the best, but couldn't find a good video for it.)
12. a song you sing to keep you awake while driving
And I'm here to prove to you
That we can party on the positive side
And pump positive vibes
So come along for the ride
Making you feel the rhythm is my occupation
Yours: Good Vibrations - Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch
Mine: Radar Love - Golden Earring (played and sung at full volume)
