August LS Day 14: Theme Thursday
I was typing the subject line above, realized that August Lyrically Speaking could be abbreviated to ALS, and started wondering if I should start an ice bucket challenge.
August Lyrically Speaking Day 14 – Theme Thursday
Sorry I"m so backed up on scoring. It's a busy time at the Kelley ranch. I'll get caught up on everything by Sunday. Today is Theme Thursday again, and it's a little tougher than the last two. I even debated moving this one to Tough Tuesday, but I don't think it quite meets that standard. There are no tricks or Tangredis, for one thing, and there are enough well-known songs on here that I think the theme is gettable. So 1 point for title, 1 point for artist, five points for correctly guessing the theme, and 2 more if you can provide your own krox -- a song with artist that fits the theme. Good luck!
1. If I could I'd like to be
A great big movie star
Overnight sensation
Drive a big expensive car
2. Aristotle, Aristotle was a bugger for the bottle, Hobbes was fond of his dram.
And René Déscartes was a drunken fart, “I drink therefore I am.”
3. Here we are, the two of us together
Taking this crazy chance to be all alone
We both know that we should not be together
'Cause if they found out, it could mess up
Both our happy homes
4. For one command
I stand and wait now
From one who's master
Of my fate now
I can't escape
For it's too late now
5. Been walking my mind to an easy time, my back turned towards the sun.
Lord knows when the cold wind blows it'll turn your head around.
6. I would like a place I could call my own
Have a conversation on the telephone
Wake up every day that would be a start
I would not complain of my wounded heart
7. My father married a pure Cherokee
My mother's people were ashamed of me
The indians said I was white by law
The White Man always called me "Indian Squaw"
8. From where I stand
It looks mighty strange
How you let a woman like that
Treat you like small change
9. Honey I know, I know, I know times are changing
It's time we all reach out 4 something new
That means u 2
U say u want a leader
10. So don't work your stuff
Because I've got troubles enough
No, don't pick on me
When one act of kindness could be
11. Who is the master
A man and woman on a star stream
In the middle of a snow dream
12. I live, I breathe, I let it rain on me
I sleep, I wake, I try hard not to break
I crave, I love, I've waited long enough
I try as hard as I can

Even though I know all the titles in the series, I doubt I'd have picked up the theme even with all of the songs... then again, I'm not a fan...

Stoned in love with you
Half Breed, Cher
8. From where I stand
It looks mighty strange
How you let a woman like that
Treat you like small change
9. Honey I know, I know, I know times are changing
It's time we all reach out 4 something new

Re: August LS Day 14: Answers and points
I'm Stone in Love With You -- Stylistics
The philosophers' song – monty python
Secret lovers – atlantic starr
Prisoner of Love – Etta James
Fire and Rain – james taylor
Regret –New Order
Half Breed – Cher
Bad Blood – Neil Sedaka
Purple Rain – Prince
Deathly – Aimee Mann
Sorcerer – Stevie Nicks
Not Pretty Enough – Kasey Chambers
Had to go pretty obscure to get 12 of these, but I was hoping the Half Breed-Bad Blood-Prince combo right in a row would give it away to people, and it seemed to help some of you, anyway. Can't believe I didn't think of Glen Campbell when I was writing this -- but it let several of you have a ready-made krox, at least.
Points:
TLITF -- 21
melly -- 20
Bob#s -- 2
estonut -- 16 + 2 for the Kasey Chambers love. I like her too, but thought she might be out of reach for this game.
AD -- 10
Marley -- 2
Sprots -- 4
HotSeat -- 8
mntetn -- 6
TBone -- 21
elwood -- 7
Fireball -- 21
jarnon -- 8

The philosophers' song – monty python
Secret lovers – atlantic starr
Prisoner of Love – Etta James
Fire and Rain – james taylor
Regret –New Order
Half Breed – Cher
Bad Blood – Neil Sedaka
Purple Rain – Prince
Deathly – Aimee Mann
Sorcerer – Stevie Nicks
Not Pretty Enough – Kasey Chambers
Had to go pretty obscure to get 12 of these, but I was hoping the Half Breed-Bad Blood-Prince combo right in a row would give it away to people, and it seemed to help some of you, anyway. Can't believe I didn't think of Glen Campbell when I was writing this -- but it let several of you have a ready-made krox, at least.

estonut -- 16 + 2 for the Kasey Chambers love. I like her too, but thought she might be out of reach for this game.
