August LS Day 8: Road Mix Wednesday

#1 Post by mrkelley23 » Thu Aug 14, 2014 5:00 am

August Lyrically Speaking Day 8 – Road Mix Wednesday
This little collection of tunes (only a small part of the playlist) kept me company all the way down to Atlanta and back last summer for the NEA national convention (what a waste of time that was!). Once again, I’m throwing 15 at you, to make up for the fact that they come from all over the musical map. 1 point for title, 1 for artist. No bonuses this time, though. Because I messed up and forgot to post this one on time, it will remain open until Friday afternoon at 5 pm.

1. We both know that it's wrong
But it's much too strong to let it cool down now
We gotta be extra careful
That we don't build our hopes too high
Cause she's got her own obligations and so do I

2. Oh, put me to work, in the school book store
Check out counter and I got bored
Teacher was lookin' for me all around
Two hours later, you know where I was found

3. He kept dreaming
(Dreaming)
Ooh, that some day he'd be a star
(A superstar, but he didn't get far)
But he sure found out the hard way
That dreams don't always come true, oh no, uh uh

4. You told me stories about your chickadees
They didn’t like BB guns or stupid archery
And charmed the lifeguard
He let them use the pool all day for free

5. Well, if you want to be a movie star
You know I’d take you to Hollywood
But if you want to be just the way you are
You know I think that you really should

6. You say I'm a dreamer, we're two of a kind
Both of us searching for some perfrct world we know we'll never find
So perhaps I should leave here, yeah yeah go far away

7. The wind blows hard against this mountain side
Across the sea into my soul
It reaches into where I cannot hide
Setting my feet upon the road

8. Extra extra, read all about it,
Wanted, young man single and free
Experience in love preferred,
But will accept a young trainee

9. That farmer left a harvest, a home and eighty acres,
The faith an' love for growin' things in his young son's heart.
An' that teacher left her wisdom in the minds of lots of children:
Did her best to give 'em all a better start.

10. Some of them want to use you
Some of them want to get used by you
Some of them want to abuse you
Some of them want to be abused

11. I said hey man cut that jive
And tell me where the chick went
But he looked at me as pleased as could be
And said these words but I wonder what he meant

12. I lose my way
And it's not too long before you point it out
I cannot cry
Because I know that's weakness in your eyes
I'm forced to fake
A smile, a laugh everyday of my life
My heart can't possibly break
When it wasn't even whole to start with

13. Well the preacher kept right on saying that all I had to do was send
Ten dollars to the church of the sacred bleeding heart of Jesus
Located somewhere in Los Angeles, California
And next week they'd say my prayer on the radio
And all my dreams would come true

14. When the twilight is gone and no songbirds are singing
When the twilight is gone you come into my heart
And here in my heart you will stay

15. She began to cry and then to confess to sins that would make a sailor blush with shame
She told of gossip and church dissension but the thing that got the most attention
Was when she talked about her love life and then she started naming names
For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled. -- Richard Feynman

Finally found a song I know.
1. We both know that it's wrong
But it's much too strong to let it cool down now
We gotta be extra careful
That we don't build our hopes too high
Cause she's got her own obligations and so do I

2. Oh, put me to work, in the school book store
Check out counter and I got bored
Teacher was lookin' for me all around
Two hours later, you know where I was found

3. He kept dreaming
(Dreaming)
Ooh, that some day he'd be a star
(A superstar, but he didn't get far)
But he sure found out the hard way
That dreams don't always come true, oh no, uh uh

4. You told me stories about your chickadees
They didn’t like BB guns or stupid archery
And charmed the lifeguard
He let them use the pool all day for free

5. Well, if you want to be a movie star
You know I’d take you to Hollywood
But if you want to be just the way you are
You know I think that you really should

6. You say I'm a dreamer, we're two of a kind
Both of us searching for some perfrct world we know we'll never find
So perhaps I should leave here, yeah yeah go far away

7. The wind blows hard against this mountain side
Across the sea into my soul
It reaches into where I cannot hide
Setting my feet upon the road

8. Extra extra, read all about it,
Wanted, young man single and free
Experience in love preferred,
But will accept a young trainee

9. That farmer left a harvest, a home and eighty acres,
The faith an' love for growin' things in his young son's heart.
An' that teacher left her wisdom in the minds of lots of children:
Did her best to give 'em all a better start.

10. Some of them want to use you
Some of them want to get used by you
Some of them want to abuse you
Some of them want to be abused

Sweet Dreams, The Eurhythmics

11. I said hey man cut that jive
And tell me where the chick went
But he looked at me as pleased as could be
And said these words but I wonder what he meant

12. I lose my way
And it's not too long before you point it out
I cannot cry
Because I know that's weakness in your eyes
I'm forced to fake
A smile, a laugh everyday of my life
My heart can't possibly break
When it wasn't even whole to start with

13. Well the preacher kept right on saying that all I had to do was send

Was when she talked about her love life and then she started naming names

4. You told me stories about your chickadees

He let them use the pool all day for free

Can't sleep and flipping channels between a W.C. Fields movie, A Christmas Story and Baywatch

5. Well, if you want to be a movie star
You know I’d take you to Hollywood
But if you want to be just the way you are
You know I think that you really should

Experience in love preferred,
But will accept a young trainee

I think this is called Want Ads

And it's not too long before you point it out
I cannot cry
Because I know that's weakness in your eyes
I'm forced to fake
A smile, a laugh everyday of my life
My heart can't possibly break
When it wasn't even whole to start with

13. Well the preacher kept right on saying that all I had to do was send
Ten dollars to the church of the sacred bleeding heart of Jesus
Located somewhere in Los Angeles, California
And next week they'd say my prayer on the radio

Oh, gosh, I know this one! But I can't recall the title. Something about three crosses at the side of the road, where the third accident victim left his blood-stained bible to the singer, who turns her life around.

Three Crosses?

August Lyrically Speaking Day 8 – Road Mix Wednesday
This little collection of tunes (only a small part of the playlist) kept me company all the way down to Atlanta and back last summer for the NEA national convention (what a waste of time that was!). Once again, I’m throwing 15 at you, to make up for the fact that they come from all over the musical map. 1 point for title, 1 for artist. No bonuses this time, though. Because I messed up and forgot to post this one on time, it will remain open until Friday afternoon at 5 pm.

This is a case of being accidentally right. I did this quickly and conflated the song with another in my head. I looked up Me and Mrs. Jones on Wikipedia and saw this:
A cover of the song was also a hit for the 1970s group The Dramatics. Their version peaked at number 47 on the pop charts and number 4 on the R&B charts in 1974.[6]
Billy Paul is the obvious answer and I should have known it. Please don't change my score since I have never heard the version by The Dramatics.
