Another attempt at new employment - l'update troisième
While I am still gainfully employed by the consulting group, the current gig is limited to thirty hours a week. I would still prefer to be a full-time employee somewhere. To that end, I've had two phone interviews with a company located about two miles from a former employer. First one was with an HR person, second was with the consultant they've been using since the previous QA guy left. The consultant has a history with the company but is doing well on his own and doesn't want the position. Anyway, the second interview went well IMO, with at least one more round of interviews, possibly two.
I am very well qualified for their needs. I think I pushed all the right buttons with the other QA guy. I'm hoping that they don't cringe at the gray hair and lack thereof if (when!) I get in for F2F interviews. And there is one major plus to the job that makes me really, really, really want it. I would be visiting their East Coast warehouse several times a year. Its location is fifteen minutes from my daughter, son-in-law and grandchild.
The next stage will probably be set up this week. It may even happen this week. The final decision, according to the consultant, is desired by the end of the month. May I impose upon the group once more and get some positive waves going? It can't hurt. Many thanks.

Re: Another attempt at new employment-update
Update: Got to the next stage. In-person interviews next Thursday afternoon. One with their medical director, one with the head of HR. An hour with each, give or take. You better believe I'll be spending the next week researching the company, the products and the people.

Re: Another attempt at new employment - another update
Update #2 - F2F done. Thought I did well. Hit a lot of hot buttons before they even mentioned them. Unlike the last time that happened, this company truly needs someone in this position since they have no one in the company who can do it. (AFAIK, that other company still hasn't hired a quality boss.)
Next stage is one more round of interviews, this time with CEO, again with Medical Director (hiring manager), and one or two others. Will probably find out early next week if I make the shorter list. They want to hire by end of month. Please keep those positive waves coming. Thanks.

Thank you notes are wafting through the ether as I type. Now I wait and wonder if age is going to become the deciding factor yet again. If only companies will view age and experience as a plus ...

Fingers crossed, Gordon!

And it's a good one! Second round of F2F interviews, this time with the CEO, the one QA tech who would be the local staff and another discussion with the hiring manager. They want to bring me in "as soon as possible". That'll be next Thursday from 9-11 AM, the first time offered. So far, so good. Stay tuned.

I want this to happen!
Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.
