August LS Day 9: Theme Thursday

#1 Post by mrkelley23 » Thu Aug 14, 2014 5:03 am

August Lyrically Speaking Day 9 – Theme Thursday
Should be a tad easier than Tuesday. Identify the title and artist for one point each. Five points for correctly identifying the theme, and a krox bonus of two points for your suggestion of a song that fits the theme but didn’t make this list. This game will also remain open until at least 5 pm Friday.

1. When I dial 661 Computer Service
She said "Hello may I help you
Please?"
I told her something must be wrong
With my phone
Cause my baby wouldn't hang up
On me

2. And now we meet in an abandoned studio
You hear the playback and it seems so long ago
And you remember, the jingles used to go,
oh-a-oh

3. I've learned to take it well
I only wish my words
Could just convince myself
That it just wasn't real
But that's not the way it feels

4. I dial it in and tune the station
They talk about the U.S. inflation
I understand just a little
No comprende, it's a riddle

5. Don't worry 'bout your laundry
Forget about your job
Just crank up the volume
And yank off the knob

6. I'd studied your cartoons, radio, music, TV, movies, magazines
Richard said, "Withdrawal in disgust is not the same as apathy"
A smile like the cartoon, tooth for a tooth
You said that irony was the shackles of youth

7. So don't become some background noise
A backdrop for the girls and boys
Who just don't know or just don't care
And just complain when you're not there

8. You can say anything you like,
but you can't touch the merchandise.
She'll give you every pennies worth,
but it will cost you a dollar first.

9. What if they're right? What if I'm wrong? What if we're kings?
One of these nights-play the right song-telephone rings
Stone in the sea, shot in the dark, splittin' the air
Listen to me, kindle the spark, answer my prayer

10. Hey--how you feelin'
Are you still the same
Don't you realize the things we did were all for real not a dream,
I just can't believe
They've all faded out of view.

11. I love you is my message
Just three words and no more
If she won't let you deliver
Slip it underneath her door

12. Golden Nose Slim Golden Nose Slim
I knows where you've been
Purple Pie Pete Purple Pie Pete
Your lips are like lightning
Girls melt in the heat

Theme?
For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled. -- Richard Feynman

Cause my baby wouldn't hang up
On me

Nope

2. And now we meet in an abandoned studio
You hear the playback and it seems so long ago
And you remember, the jingles used to go,
oh-a-oh

Video Killed the Radio Star - Buggles

3. I've learned to take it well
I only wish my words
Could just convince myself
That it just wasn't real
But that's not the way it feels

Operator - Jim Croce

4. I dial it in and tune the station
They talk about the U.S. inflation
I understand just a little
No comprende, it's a riddle

Mexican Radio - Wall of Voodoo

5. Don't worry 'bout your laundry
Forget about your job
Just crank up the volume
And yank off the knob

UHF - "Weird Al" Yankovic

6. I'd studied your cartoons, radio, music, TV, movies, magazines
Richard said, "Withdrawal in disgust is not the same as apathy"
A smile like the cartoon, tooth for a tooth
You said that irony was the shackles of youth

What's the Frequency, Kenneth? - R.E.M.

7. So don't become some background noise
A backdrop for the girls and boys
Who just don't know or just don't care
And just complain when you're not there

Radio Ga Ga - Queen (I saw this performed Wednesday night at "We Will Rock You")

8. You can say anything you like,
but you can't touch the merchandise.
She'll give you every pennies worth,
but it will cost you a dollar first.

She's a Beauty - The Tubes

9. What if they're right? What if I'm wrong? What if we're kings?
One of these nights-play the right song-telephone rings
Stone in the sea, shot in the dark, splittin' the air
Listen to me, kindle the spark, answer my prayer

Nope

10. Hey--how you feelin'
Are you still the same
Don't you realize the things we did were all for real not a dream,
I just can't believe
They've all faded out of view.

Telephone Line - ELO

11. I love you is my message
Just three words and no more
If she won't let you deliver
Slip it underneath her door

Nope

12. Golden Nose Slim Golden Nose Slim
I knows where you've been
Purple Pie Pete Purple Pie Pete

Telegram Sam - T. Rex
