#1 Post by mrkelley23 » Mon Aug 11, 2014 4:55 am

August Lyrically Speaking Day 6 -- 30 day song Challenge, part II
Time for Part 2 of the 30 day song challenge. Below are lyrics to my answers to days 11-20 of the challenge. Identify the title and the artist of each one for a total of two points. You may receive a bonus of one point for each if you tell me what your answer would be to the challenge.

Day 11: A song from your favorite band

1. Open up your mind and let me step inside
Rest your weary head and let your heart decide
It's so easy when you know the rules
It's so easy all you have to do

Day 12: A song from a band you hate

2. I, I, I, I, I just can't wait, I, I, I, I got a date
At the good ole rock and roll road show, I gotta go

Day 13: A song that is a guilty pleasure

3. So, by changing her misconceptions
She went in a new direction
And found inside she felt a connection
She fell in love.
What is the feelin' takin' over?
Thinkin' no one could open my door (open my door)

Day 14: A song that no one would expect you to love

4. He said "Son, have you seen the world?
Well, what would you say if I said that you could?
Just carry this gun and you'll even get paid."
I said "That sounds pretty good."
Black leather boots
Spit-shined so bright

day 15 - a song that describes you

5. Creole Williams lived down a dirt road
Made homemade wine like nobody I know
Dropped by one Friday night and said
"Can you help me, Creole
Got a little girl waitin' on me and I wanna treat her right"

day 16 - a song that you used to love but now hate

6. No one else can make me feel
The colors that you bring
Stay with me while we grow old
And we will live each day in springtime

day 17 - a song that you hear often on the radio

7. Number one with a bullet I'm a power pack
Yes I am
In a bang with the gang
They gotta catch me if they want me to hang

day 18 - a song that you wish you heard on the radio

8. I can see very well
There's a boat on the reef with a broken back
And I can see it very well
There's a joke and I know it very well
It's one of those that I told you long ago

day 19 - a song from your favorite album

9. The teacher put him in a corner
She said.. It's for your own good..
And you won't come out 'til you get it right
And are responding like you should
Well finally he got lonely
Frightened thoughts filled his head

day 20 - a song that you listen to when you’re angry

10. He's nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready to drop bombs,
But he keeps on forgetting what he wrote down,
The whole crowd goes so loud
He opens his mouth, but the words won't come out
He's choking how, everybody's joking now

Day 11: A song from your favorite band

1. Open up your mind and let me step inside
Rest your weary head and let your heart decide
It's so easy when you know the rules
It's so easy all you have to do

LB's Pick - Hmmm, I don't really have a favorite band. I guess the closest I ever had was back in the 80's when Nickelodeon was rerunning their classic show, I did fall in love with the music of The Monkees, so I'll pick one of their songs... "Star Collector" was always one of my favorites.

Day 12: A song from a band you hate

2. I, I, I, I, I just can't wait, I, I, I, I got a date
At the good ole rock and roll road show, I gotta go
Saturday Night - Bay City Rollers

LB's Pick - I Will Wait - Mumford and Sons

Day 13: A song that is a guilty pleasure

3. So, by changing her misconceptions
She went in a new direction
And found inside she felt a connection
She fell in love.
What is the feelin' takin' over?
Thinkin' no one could open my door (open my door)
Miss Independent - Kelly Clarkson

LB's Pick - Geez, half of the songs I like are guilty pleasures! I'll pick My Humps - Black Eyed Peas

Day 14: A song that no one would expect you to love

4. He said "Son, have you seen the world?
Well, what would you say if I said that you could?
Just carry this gun and you'll even get paid."
I said "That sounds pretty good."
Black leather boots
Spit-shined so bright

LB's Pick - Since I made it my featured song on my Mecca Muzak blog post today, I'll pick "Wagon Wheel" - Darius Rucker... since I generally hate both country music AND Hootie & the Suckfish....

day 15 - a song that describes you

5. Creole Williams lived down a dirt road
Made homemade wine like nobody I know
Dropped by one Friday night and said
"Can you help me, Creole
Got a little girl waitin' on me and I wanna treat her right"

LB's Pick - Daysleeper - REM

day 16 - a song that you used to love but now hate

6. No one else can make me feel
The colors that you bring
Stay with me while we grow old
And we will live each day in springtime

LB's Pick - Why couldn't this be reversed? I can come up with a bunch of songs I used to hate, but now love. How about Jingle Bell Rock - Bobby Helms. I'm sure I liked it when I was a kid, but it's like all Xmas music to me now after 16 years at Mecca...

day 17 - a song that you hear often on the radio

7. Number one with a bullet I'm a power pack
Yes I am
In a bang with the gang
They gotta catch me if they want me to hang
Back in Black - AC/DC

LB's Pick - Whatever the new songs du jour are on my "variety" station I listen to that in a past existence used to have a no-repeat pledge. One that has long exceeded its newbie life that I am really getting sick of hearing is Dark Horse - Katy Perry

day 18 - a song that you wish you heard on the radio

8. I can see very well
There's a boat on the reef with a broken back
And I can see it very well
There's a joke and I know it very well
It's one of those that I told you long ago

LB's Pick - So many to choose from... I'll go with Nobody's Fool - Kenny Loggins

day 19 - a song from your favorite album

9. The teacher put him in a corner
She said.. It's for your own good..
And you won't come out 'til you get it right
And are responding like you should
Well finally he got lonely
Frightened thoughts filled his head

LB's Pick - Great, I don't even listen to albums, let alone have a favorite one. I'll pick a classic from the 80's that spawned a lot of great hits, "Eliminator", and go with TV Dinners - ZZ Top

day 20 - a song that you listen to when you’re angry

10. He's nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready to drop bombs,
But he keeps on forgetting what he wrote down,
The whole crowd goes so loud
He opens his mouth, but the words won't come out
He's choking how, everybody's joking now
Lose Yourself - Eminem

LB's Pick - I don't really listen to any particular music based on my mood... I'll just say Thunderstruck - AC/DC

It's fun to see everyone's answers for their own picks, more so than actually doing yours. Thanks for fun Mike.

Another guilty pleasure just came on my Sansa Fuze, so I felt compelled to share ...

I'm Gonna Hire a Wino To Decorate Our Home - David Frizzell

I LOVE that song. It reminds me of good times and good people in Fresno. And cheers me up when I am down.

And it would have been my pick for today, had it come on the Sansa Fuze 10 minutes earlier.

Play the Game-Queen/A Hard Day's Night-Beatles

Day 12: A song from a band you hate

2. I, I, I, I, I just can't wait, I, I, I, I got a date
At the good ole rock and roll road show, I gotta go

Saturday Night-Bay City Rollers/Tonight Tonight-Smashing Pumpkins. I HATE Billy Corgan's nasally whine beyond words..

Day 13: A song that is a guilty pleasure

3. So, by changing her misconceptions
She went in a new direction
And found inside she felt a connection
She fell in love.
What is the feelin' takin' over?
Thinkin' no one could open my door (open my door)

?????/Ill playfully riff off your answer to number 2 and say Rock and Roll Love Letter-Bay City Rollers

Day 14: A song that no one would expect you to love

4. He said "Son, have you seen the world?
Well, what would you say if I said that you could?
Just carry this gun and you'll even get paid."
I said "That sounds pretty good."
Black leather boots
Spit-shined so bright

????/If I Can't Have You-Yvonne Elliman. Yes...rarer than the number of near mint copies of Action Comics 1, the number of disco songs I really like...

day 15 - a song that describes you

5. Creole Williams lived down a dirt road
Made homemade wine like nobody I know
Dropped by one Friday night and said
"Can you help me, Creole
Got a little girl waitin' on me and I wanna treat her right"

Dust on the Bottle-David Lee Murphy/ This came out in te brief window of time that I was intrigued by modern country. It lasted about a year./I don't particularly like the song, but I'll choose I Believe in Music-Mac Davis/Gallery

day 16 - a song that you used to love but now hate

6. No one else can make me feel
The colors that you bring
Stay with me while we grow old
And we will live each day in springtime

day 17 - a song that you hear often on the radio

7. Number one with a bullet I'm a power pack
Yes I am
In a bang with the gang
They gotta catch me if they want me to hang

day 18 - a song that you wish you heard on the radio

Frightened thoughts filled his head

????/Here Comes the Sun-Beatles

day 20 - a song that you listen to when you’re angry

10. He's nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready to drop bombs,

Totally agree. It's working out even better than I'd hoped. The only bad thing is everyone's choices are so much cooler than mine.

Day 11: A song from your favorite band

1. Open up your mind and let me step inside
Rest your weary head and let your heart decide
It's so easy when you know the rules
It's so easy all you have to do

Play the Game -- Queen

Day 12: A song from a band you hate

2. I, I, I, I, I just can't wait, I, I, I, I got a date
At the good ole rock and roll road show, I gotta go

Saturday Night -- Bay City Rollers Of all the boy bands in all the countries in all the world, this is the only I could never find any redeeming qualities in.

Day 13: A song that is a guilty pleasure

3. So, by changing her misconceptions
She went in a new direction
And found inside she felt a connection
She fell in love.
What is the feelin' takin' over?
Thinkin' no one could open my door (open my door)

Miss Independent -- Kelly Clarkson Not ashamed to say I got stared at while head banging to this song at a stop light not too long ago.

Day 14: A song that no one would expect you to love

4. He said "Son, have you seen the world?
Well, what would you say if I said that you could?
Just carry this gun and you'll even get paid."
I said "That sounds pretty good."
Black leather boots
Spit-shined so bright

Hero of War -- Rise Against Rise Against is middle son's current fave. It's 90% screamo with little redeeming musical quality. But if you like anti-war power ballads, a la Eve of Destruction, give this one a listen. I probably love it so much because his singing this is what led us to discover that the youngest son had found his voice.

day 15 - a song that describes you

5. Creole Williams lived down a dirt road
Made homemade wine like nobody I know
Dropped by one Friday night and said
"Can you help me, Creole
Got a little girl waitin' on me and I wanna treat her right"

Dust on the Bottle -- David Lee Murphy Struggled with this one, especially now. Saw much more clever answers in other people's posts.

day 16 - a song that you used to love but now hate

6. No one else can make me feel
The colors that you bring
Stay with me while we grow old
And we will live each day in springtime

Lovin' You -- Minnie Riperton Hate to say it, especially since Ms. Riperton died tragically young, but this is really, really bad. She did at least have the whisper falsetto going long before Mariah Carey, though.

day 17 - a song that you hear often on the radio

7. Number one with a bullet I'm a power pack
Yes I am
In a bang with the gang
They gotta catch me if they want me to hang

Back in Black -- AC/DC It's a running joke with youngest son -- every time I pick him up from somewhere, he turns on the classic rock station (It's our compromise on what radio station we can both stand to listen to). Inevitably, at least one AC/DC song will come on during the drive home -- even if it's only 15 minutes or so. Overplayed, overplayed, overplayed.

day 18 - a song that you wish you heard on the radio

8. I can see very well
There's a boat on the reef with a broken back
And I can see it very well
There's a joke and I know it very well
It's one of those that I told you long ago

Madman Across the Water -- Elton John None of the stations I've found play the Elton "deep cuts," like this one, or Solar Prestige a Gammon, or even Funeral for a Friend. Luckily, I've bought all these songs over the years, so I can listen to them when I want.

day 19 - a song from your favorite album

9. The teacher put him in a corner
She said.. It's for your own good..
And you won't come out 'til you get it right
And are responding like you should
Well finally he got lonely
Frightened thoughts filled his head

Flowers are Red -- Harry Chapin Great song about education and what's bad about it. And what could be good about it. I miss KT, too. It is on On the Road to Kingdom Come, but I put it on here for Legends of the Lost and Found, the second live album that Harry did. He's one of the few artists that I actually preferred live, for some reason.

day 20 - a song that you listen to when you’re angry

10. He's nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready to drop bombs,
But he keeps on forgetting what he wrote down,
The whole crowd goes so loud
He opens his mouth, but the words won't come out
He's choking how, everybody's joking now

Lose Yourself -- Eminem Geez, everyone else went for a song to calm them down and get them out of being angry. I went for the one that keeps that anger up. Sometimes it feels good to get mad and stay mad, as long as you don't take it out on anyone other than yourself.
