That didn't take long

#1 Post by kroxquo » Thu Jul 31, 2014 12:07 pm

In my e-mail today:

Thank you for your interest in being a contestant on “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.” You have not been selected to be a potential contestant. We appreciate your continued interest in the show and thank you for taking the time to audition with us.

I would be disappointed if I had believed I had a chance of getting on in the first place.

I got the identical email. Oh well, life goes on. But I have to wonder, what was the point of the lady raving about how well I did on the test and how she wants to put me on the show? If they already decided they didn't want me, why not just say thanks for coming, we'll let you know?

I didn't and will never give them a chance to send me one of those. Seriously, the show sucks. Stupid randomness of categories and values, and stupid question, silly host antics and I could go on. But I haven't watched an entire episode since MV and it was more of a cross between watching the View and paint drying.

At some point they will pick someone to win a million and give them a John Carpenter stack of questions. And what is sad is very few of today's contestants could even do it.

She could have been encouraging you to try again. The selection process is very arbitrary, and somebody can be rejected over and over and then selected. To bad they're not in your area very often.

Nah. If they decide it's been too long without a $1 million winner, they won't try to get one with a regular stack. They'll come up with some special "tournament" like they did a few years ago, open for a limited time to a limited set of contestants.

Not really. It is random how they've picked or NOT picked peeps. I know there are many here who would be fine "tv", yet haven't been chosen. Your comment is simply because you disagree politically with BiT.

It might be sour grapes if I wanted to be on the show. I truly don't. I truly don't like the show as it has been 'modified' for syndication. It is not the show I and others loved and would still love.

LOL! Bob must disagree politically with everyone then.

In trying to sound wise, he managed to misinterpret BiT, a classic fable, and the word epitome in just one short sentence. That should win some kind of really special internet award...

I believe you were correct in your usage of both terms based on your belief about the situation, however, you were wrong in your understanding of the situation so 'sour grapes' did not apply. Had I ever wanted to be on the sydicated version or in particular the newest incarnation, then 'sour grapes' may have applied. But I do not have nor ever have had a desire to be on the syndicated version. Sour grapes do not apply if the grapes I want are from a different vine than the one we're talking about. I still want the grapes on the prime time Regis fastest finger vine.

Bob, just to be clear, I audition Monday in Raleigh, got the video interview.
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

So the APs are using it wrong! And that particularly offends me, because in so doing, they're falsely extending hope to those of us who they clearly don't want on the show.

Because if it was random, then one of us boring MAWGs would occasionally get on the show.
