RIP Thomas Berger

#1 Post by silverscreenselect » Wed Jul 23, 2014 8:10 am

Author whose best known book, Little Big Man, was made into a 1970 movie featuring Dustin Hoffman as a 110-year-old survivor of the Battle of Little Bighorn. A 50th anniversary edition of Little Big Man was published earlier this year. Most of Berger's work was satire, including Neighbors, about an escalating battle between two neighboring families in the suburbs. Neighbors was made into a 1980s film with Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi, and very loosely remade this year with Seth Rogen and Zac Efron.

Age 89.

The thing I always remember about Little Big Man was the Dark Shadows makeup connection:

It was a good day to die.
..what country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? let them take arms.
~~ Thomas Jefferson

War is where the government tells you who the bad guy is.
Revolution is when you decide that for yourself.
