How's everybody doing?

#1 Post by mellytu74 » Fri Jul 18, 2014 9:21 pm

How's everybody doing?

Just asking. We don't ask it often enough -- at least I don't. And I should.

Because, even though I don't post here often, I do think of everyone (at least the old-timers - sorry newbies) and hope everyone and their respective families are doing well.

Thanks, MrK, for the reminder. :D

I'm hot! The A/C here keeps failing. The guy just came to fix it again. :(

Like.

Typical summer Saturday morning, 2014. Just saw the boys off to their jobs at the local water park. Wendy is getting a little much-deserved sleep, and I'm about ready to start chores while waiting for the golf to start.

I"m having some back/hip problems again -- going in for PT next week to see if we can make it better before school starts.

Which happens in 2.5 weeks. Too soon. Kauai had us really thinking and talking seriously about what we want retirement to look like for the first time.

Sort of a mix down here.
Bad News:
I still have a broken leg and am mostly non-ambulatory. Today makes the seventh week since my surgery to put my leg back together.
School starts for me two weeks from yesterday. Back in the grind of work.
Without my walking 4-5 times a week, I have gained 12 lbs. (I also do a lot more "boredom" eating now)

Good News:
My doctor says that he thinks I should be mostly healed up enough to start trying to walk in another five weeks.
I have my own personal R.N. (The Baboo) taking care of my during my convalescence.
Our weather has been great this summer.
Since I can't drive, my gasoline bill each month is the lowest it has ever been.
Our condo decision has worked out well. We bought one back in February on the MS Gulf Coast (Biloxi) knowing that I could not retire and move down there until July of 2015. So far, we have not had a single night that the condo was not rented and bringing in income. A FEMA lady was in there when we bought it and she has extended twice since then. She is committed until Sept. 30. So she has basically paid for our HOA dues, insurance and taxes for this year already.

All in all, things are pretty good down here.

Happy that TLAF is doing better. I slept til 10:30 today :o Am doing crappy book crossword puzzles. Jeff had a dental implant Thursday and other than crankiness on Thursday he's doing great. Dot and Merv hit the vet tomorrow for steroid shot and figuring out why Dot pants so much and is drinking so much water. It's lovely cool right now and my nails look like shit.
Well, then

I am in a better life at Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival this weekend. Since I am not in that better life (maybe, someday, again) I am here instead, & fairly grumpy about it. It's not like they aren't holding the festival without me.

Oh, but I discovered Unforgettable went back on air about 5 weeks ago without telling me. So I guess I will be watching an Unforgettable marathon on this borrowed internet connection.

I still have to buy a Chromebook or some kind of smart phone. I am leaning toward the Chromebook even though they cancelled their 2 years of free 3G & I'll have to buy a WiFi thingie for it (or go searching free WiFi, which is almost as much fun as searching out free actual computers to use) because when I look up maps on it they will actually be large enough to see. But it ain't gonna run MicroSoft Stuff. But neither would a phone I would buy. At least with a Chromebook or a phone I won't have to worry about security software because the vendor does it for you; that's big for me. My sister's computer security system has taken to doing updates you didn't OK on it's own & disconnecting you from the internet during them with no warning. Looks like the computer or modem is malfunctioning instead.

You've only missed 3 episodes. It started back up on Sunday, 6/29, meaning the 4th episode of the 3rd season airs tomorrow.

Rainy day today. My only son turned 32 today. We went bowling....my highest score was 111 but that was good enough for 2nd place. Our group obviously doesn't bowl much.

My brother-in-law has been in ICU almost 2 weeks now. Started out with pneumonia. Got treated at doc's office. Couldn't breathe the next day so went to ER. Has been on ventilator and has a feeding tube this entire time. I have the uncanny ability to go visit him when no one else is there. Every single time I've gone, he hasn't awakened and looks awful. He's only 62. He needs lots of good vibes, white hot glares and prayers.

Chapman and Skylah spent the night last night. They are 6 and 8 now. We all slept in the same bed (queen size). I think I fell asleep first and that was very late. I woke up thinking I could hear music or some sort of sound. Turns out the little dickens were under the blanket playing games on the Ipod! They finally fell asleep by 1:30AM! I needed a nap today, but I didn't get one.

Now to finish out my exciting day (well I did get my nails done) I'm watching Free Willy with Chapman and Skylah, however they have both the room and I am watching it by myself now!

Ah, but tv.com says I missed 4 episodes. They had 3 available to watch for free, which I watched yesterday, & 1 for pay. cbs.com only has the 3 I've seen available. My guess is that that "for pay" episode, which according to tv.com's not-infallible dating system aired last week on 7/13/14 along with #4, will air in the future some time. I don't know if I would have been able to watch it if I had decided to pay for it, but since I'm at a borrowed terminal I don't do stuff like that from here anyway.

TV.COM is wrong. The episode they've listed as "The Island" did not air on 7/13.

TV.COM

This is verified by a few other sites, in addition to my DVR:

I just recently saw Ringo and his All-Starr Band and followed that up 10 days later by seeing his old bandmate Paul. Enjoyed both tremendously. McCartney's voice ain't what it once was but it was still a most excellent show. 3 hours long, too...not bad for a 72 year-old dude.

I am about ready to start on the first installment of the ambitious 3 part biography of The Beatles by Mark Lewisohn, which is promised to be the definitive history of the Fabs..first installment is around 700 pages and takes us only up to the point where they are about to explode in America..

I am enjoying a very productive retirement, devoting my time to a combination of a top secret Boneys project, reorganizing my iPod and its 11,000 songs, catching up on the recent adventures of Spider-Man and such, and playing The Simpsons Tapped Out on my Kindle Fire. I am solidly hooked on and obsessed with that Simpsons game.

Yesiree, productive retirement, indeed.

But I am NOT bored....just easily amused..

Mom is adjusting to new nursing facility after fire. Although one afternoon last week she called 911 seven times because she didn't know where she was. Also, when she hears the call light bells at night she thinks it's the first alarm and gets up and goes out into the hall. PSTD I would guess.

Hubby is still in the nursing facility (since late April). He's lost 80 pounds, but still isn't standing or walking. He can't come home until he can take care of himself, which leaves me in limbo.

I am having tests on my back to determine how much surgery I may need (stenosis/sciaticia). Hope to get it done while hubby is still in care facility, so I don't have to worry about him.

The weather last week here was beautiful, but we are back to summer temps this week.... 100!!!!!!

Can't complain too much.

Wife and I celebrated 21 years of marriage with the two best steaks that we have eaten (with a price to match. :) )

The Boy returned last Friday from his 5 weeks of intensive training at the Kansas City Ballet. He seems re-energized and was excited about some of the feedback and advice/corrections that he got. He was back in time to see his sister, Lil Bit, perform at the conclusion of a two week dance camp, which included excerpts from Coppelia. He even had nice comments on the technical aspects of her performance.

All three kids including Princess Pudding (PP), will be auditioning this weekend for "The Nutcracker". Hoping for new and exciting parts.

I am supposed to attend a reception in a couple weeks for Justice Alito, if it works with my schedule. I thought that I would share some of the viewpoints from the Bored on the Hobby Lobby decision.

Kids are back to school in 3 weeks. It seems like the older two had very little "vacation", at least in there eyes, but those are the breaks.

Kay. prayers are going out for your brother-in-law.

And ksbirchtree, for your husband, though at least with him it sound like the prognosis is "he'll be out in time"?

Both way more important than whether I see all the episodes of Unforgettable.

Thanks Ghost. He's still very critical. Had a reaction to an anti-fungal medication they thought might work. Obviously didn't.

NE1, so sorry about your brother and sister. I lost my oldest sister when she was just 66 and it's very hard. Prayers for you and yours and enjoy the 50 year celebration.
