Well, after several months of mourning poor Presley dog, we finally decided to go in a different direction thsi time with our four-footer. Actually, we WERE going to go in two different directions, but I'll explain that in a minute. In the meantime, though, my newest avatar is the newest member fo the Kelley clan. His name is Moonie, and he almost immediately discovered he could jump to the tops of our kitchen cabinets in two mighty leaps, and then we wouldn't be able to hassle him.

Don't get me wrong, he's very fun and playful, but when there are three boys in the house (well, four, if you count me) you sometimes need your privacy, if you know what I mean.

Things are especially interesting right now, since we're dogsitting for my brother. Luckily, Lady is strictly an outdoor dog, and we're under strict orders to keep her outside so she doesn't get spoiled. And Moonie is strictly an indoor cat. And we're all very pleased with him.

He almost had an older sister. We adopted her (to be named Tonks) from the animal control shelter last Monday, and scheduled vet appointments for this past Friday. Unsuspectingly, I let Wendy take them to the vet, and I went and played golf. I called her from the seventh hole, and she told me that Tonks had feline leukemia. Sigh. The Humane Society took her, luckily, since the shelter was closed last Friday. Wendy had to spend all afternoon cleaning, bleaching, washing, and otherwise sterilizing everything the cat had touched.

Fortunately, Moonie had been held up in the adoption process by that pesky little neutering process (sorry, Bruce) so he didn't come home until about 15 minutes before the vet appointment. So he appears to be happy and healthy.

We do plan on getting another one later this week, because I never believed in leaving one cat alone for long.

You adopted Moonie--and then you neutered him!? Does Moonie's family know about this???

Condolences about Tonks. I'm sure they'd have made a lovely couple.

But who knows, maybe Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs are waiting for you, down at the shelter!

Please ask him if he likes singing (or maybe you already can tell.) I'm always looking for more talented four-footers for the cast of my opera.

Also, tell him that if that Lady dog at your house gives him any hassle, just let me know. The odds are good that I'm taller than she is, and I teach manners if that's necessary.

Moonie is not the most vocal cat I've ever lived with, but he does have a lovely clear voice. However, you might have to adjust your performance times if you give him a role, because he seems to be in his best voice at about 2 or 3 in the morning. Which is only fitting, I guess, given his name.

Lady is a most excellently mannered canine, especially for an outdoor dog, whom I always picture more as roughhousers than the well-bred indoor/outdoor dog. And you are definitely taller than she, but she is quite stoutly built, being a German Shepherd mix. She is a handsome and happy outdoorsy type, as opposed to your more refined elegance. Each a beauty in your own way.

I'll try to post a picture of Lady tomorrow or the next day.

Ed, the cat, is sitting here staring at me but he does want to welcome Moonie to our little "family". Ed, too was a Humane Society acquisition but he was already "fixed" when we got him - they don't offer any cats up for adoption without spaying or neutering them. If they're too young, they give you a certificate for a future one.

I think Ed could give Moonie a run for his money - he loves to jump up on our dresser then up onto the chest of draws. They seem to love to be at eye level with you.

Enjoy - we have gotten so much from this guy - I can't tell you. He keeps us laughing even when we're very down.

Wait till Moonie (the two-footer) finds out you named your cat after him. He will be honored.
