When her co-workers retrieved their phones to try to call her, they found that she had been frantically trying to call and text people to come help her.

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

One strange thing in the story: You don't "swipe" RFID cards. They work by radio waves (thus the RF part).
