Ex-US Sen. Howard Baker Jr. Dies at 88

Howard Baker was a Senator from Tennessee for three terms, and majority leader from 1981 to 1985. He was most famous as vice chairman of the Senate Watergate Committee. He summarized the committee's task as finding out: "What did the President know, and when did he know it?"

Sen. Baker's first wife Joy died in 1993. His widow, Nancy Kassebaum, is also a member of a political family and a former Senator.

I always thought Gerry Ford made a tactical error when he selected Dole instead of Baker as his running mate. --Bob
