Today is my 3rd son's birthday - elladan would be his Bored handle. He turns 29.
In other news, the AC is still out and I'm still struggling with the CPAP mask. The two, I think, are related. The service company won't be out until Thursday and then we'll find out what the fix will cost - anything from just adding new coolant to needing a new unit.

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

I was told, after the apnea study several years ago, that I was doing so well in the CPAP mask. Whereas what I was doing was waking up every 1/2 hour or so with the feeling of being suffocated, by the mask. But, apparently, in between, I was getting great sleep. They said. There existed a mask even then that coordinated with your breathing patterns, in & out, instead of just forcing air at you all the time. But the lab didn't have one of those for me to try. I never did get the mask.
What I wanted, anyway, was the other conclusion they came to, that a mouth guard would stop my grinding my teeth while asleep. So I took this medical conclusion & tried to get the mouth guard made under my medical insurance, but the doctor that was supposed to be able to do that, they had said, if I had the official permission, never got back to me. And appears to have disappeared.
I just should have shelled out for the mouth guard to an orthodontist. My dental insurance will not pay for orthodontic work in adults. It might have prevented many terrible dental problems. I still have to make that appointment. It could prevent even more horrible dental problems. (My dentist says the ones you buy over the counter, which aren't fitted to your mouth, are worse than none at all, & "Id just chew through it anyway".
These days I weigh less, so for a while I had less apnea, but these days I wake up several times during the night for reasons that may be medical & may be stress-related, but possibly aren't even apnea.
