The Ultimate QoD Challenge -- Week 10, Thursday

#1 Post by Pastor Fireball » Thu Jun 19, 2014 4:57 am

"Ten!"

This category would have been more appropriate for the final week, but I got something else planned for the final week.

"Bizarre Endings"

TV shows, movies, and games aren't the only things that can have bizarre endings. Some people's lives can have them, too. Below are the names of ten people, both real and fictional. For each one, tell me the unusual circumstances that led to that person's death. 16 points for each correct answer. And just like in a ghoul pool, there is also a bet on another famous death.

Answers are due by Friday 6/20 at 4 PM EDT.

1. Chuckles the Clown from "The Mary Tyler Moore Show"
2. naturalist Timothy Treadwell
3. Susan Ross from "Seinfeld"
4. director Alan J. Pakula
5. Charlie Harper from "Two and a Half Men"
6. philosopher Kurt Godel
7. Bond villain Milton Krest
8. Mike Edwards of Electric Light Orchestra
9. actress Beulah Bondi
10. writer Sherwood Anderson
"Fat Chance" bet: ___%
"[Drumpf's] name alone creates division and anger, whose words inspire dissension and hatred, and can't possibly 'Make America Great Again.'" --Kobe Bryant (1978-2020)

"In times of crisis, the wise build bridges. The foolish build barriers." --Chadwick Boseman (1976-2020)

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

1. Chuckles the Clown from "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" -- crushed by an elephant while wearing a peanut costume

A little song, a little dance... and you know the rest. If you don't, just go back a couple of weeks.

2. naturalist Timothy Treadwell -- eaten by a grizzly bear

He was the subject of the Werner Herzog movie "Grizzly Man". His ghost pops up on the Bored every once in a while... such as in this thread.

3. Susan Ross from "Seinfeld" -- allergic reaction to cheap envelope glue

4. director Alan J. Pakula -- struck in the head by a metal pipe that was launched through his windshield by the driver in front of him

5. Charlie Harper from "Two and a Half Men" -- struck by a speeding subway train

6. philosopher Kurt Godel -- starved to death because he was too paranoid to eat anything that wasn't prepared by his ailing wife

7. Bond villain Milton Krest -- depending on whether you go by the short story or the movie, I would have accepted either choked on a rare fish that was stuffed down his throat or exploded in a decompression chamber

8. Mike Edwards of Electric Light Orchestra -- killed by a rolling bale of hay that collided with his van

9. actress Beulah Bondi -- tripped on her cat and broke her ribs

10. writer Sherwood Anderson -- internal bleeding from swallowing a toothpick

6/16 + 6/17 + 6/18 + 6/19 Scores (7 participants)
Bob Juch - 24 + 40 + 8 + 96 = 168
franktangredi - 8 + 8 + 0 + 80 = 96
smilergrogan - 4 + 8 + 16 + 32 = 60
Bob78164 - 4 + 20 + 0 + 32 = 56
themanintheseersuckersuit - 0 + 0 + 0 + 48 = 48
kroxquo - 8 + 4 + 8 + 16 = 36
jarnon - 0 + 8 + 0 + 16 = 24
