This I will not be trying out for. :P

I registered. Long shot, but why not?

On regular J! the sports categories are often the last chosen, and most contestants do poorly in them when they have to choose them. I'm sure the contestant pool will be a little different for this.

Same here.

I've stated my reasons on the J! board, but basically the potential payoff ($5000 winning a game, no returning champion) vs. effort/expense to get there, plus my absolute dearth of baseball trivial knowledge = no way in hell.

Would you lose jeopardy eligibility if you appear?

From various opinions on the Internets, it seems that you would not lose regular J! eligibility since this is not "J! hosted by Trebek."

We'll know for sure if they accept as a player someone who has already appeared on regular Jeopardy! Is it taping in Los Angeles? --Bob

It has been confirmed by "Rex Kramer" on the J-Board that former J! players are eligible for SportsJ! based on an e-mail he received.

No clue where they are taping. Dan Patrick does his show on the East Coast, but they do have these things called airplanes. Seems it would be easier to move him around than to build a fresh J! set.

Considering that they sent me the email specifically because I was a former J! contestant, I'd say the converse was true, subject to the usual (regular) J! criteria (number of game appearances in so many years, etc.) Then again, since it's on a pay channel like Crackle, maybe that doesn't even come into play since the episodes don't technically "air."

EDIT: I do recall someone saying that the folks that played Rock and Roll Jeopardy! were eligible for regular J!, so I suppose the same thing would apply here; the only constraint I remember (besides the usual "one game show/reality show/etc. in two years, three in five years" rules) was that you couldn't have appeared on "Jeopardy! with Alex Trebek."

The wording on one of those three links said former J players are eligible.

I won't be trying out but I will be coaching at least one co-worker in his quest.

I remember a J! category from many years ago called Jewish Sports Heroes or something like that. One clue was about a pitcher, and the answer was Sandy Koufax. One contestant rang in and guessed Hank Aaron. At least they got the right sport.

They were probably thinking of Hall of Famer Rod Carew. He converted! (Not really, but it's now a popular belief thanks to Adam Sandler's Chanukah Song).

I have not seen this website before, but assuming it is legit I would assume that SportsJ! will be taping at Sony Studios

By coincidence, I just saw a commercial for the Sports Jeopardy! iPhone app. Good practice if you're going to audition.

Today's audition went well. I passed the test, and the remainder of the session was very much like a regular J! audition.
About 150-200 people showed up today (I think similar numbers were there for the Saturday session), and it was the epitome of a sausage fest. Maggie was running the audition, and one of the first things she joked about was people saying yesterday "So where's the ladies audition taking place?"
Clue Crew Jimmy was there as well some other folks from J! and Crackle. The 30-question test was administered, and while grading was taking place there was a Q and A session mixed with focus-group elements. Being a new venture, they wanted to know what we liked and disliked about various aspects of Sports Jeopardy, Crackle, and the app game. About 25 of us passed test test (of course, they did not announce the cutoff score), and we filled out applications and took turns in 3s to play the mock game and talk about ourselves.
Tapings will occur in August, January, and April in Culver City, but on a modified J! set. Those drawn from the pool will get about a month's notice, similar to regular J!

Was the audition in the regular J! studio, or somewhere else on the Sony lot? When I was in the J! audience recently, I counted 125 audience seats.

Good luck! I don't consider myself enough of a sports specialist to attempt this. (Or any kind of a specialist.)

The WOF studio was used, which I think is more spacious. The auditioners used the main audience seats for the initial test. Passers were kept in the studio and we used an array of folding chairs on the studio floor.

I have gotten an invite to audition in Dallas on Sunday, June 29. Since this will be online instead of on TV their selection criteria may be a little different, so I think I'm going to give it a shot. I auditioned for regular J! two years ago and had since given up on game shows, but this will be the final attempt.

Good luck!
For anyone else who is considering either version of J!, they did clarify at the audition that anyone appearing on Sports J! will still have any eligibility for regular J!

There are some sample clues on the Sports J! website.

http://sportsjeopardy.azurewebsites.net ... sample.pdf

I went 2 for 12, which is why I won't be trying out for this show.

I got 9 of 12, but I still think that's pretty weak on these basic questions.

I didn't know they were coming to Dallas. That's almost tempting to me.

According to reports from Saturday, it is the same J! crew doing these interviews as well, so I imagine it isn't too different.
