Besides-the no-tolerance policy in schools is not driven by conservatives. I submit that you could find just as stupid examples of it from California or any other state.

The absolute classic example is from Maryland last fall.

I would love to know Bob's thought process in posting this.

1) Was it done as an indictment of the Zero Tolerance policy nationwide. If so, welcome to the party. TMITSSS, BiT, myself etc are right there with him on this. Does he have a history of posting examples of the stupid application of the Zero-Tolerance policy nationwide? Not that I have seen, but maybe so.

2) Was it posted as a lead to the argument that Texas applies the Zero Tolerance policies worse than other states-maybe so, maybe not. but that argument might be interesting.

3) Or is it simply a "Shiny Penny" and posted as if it occurred in a complete vacuum with no thought about the wider Zero-Tolerance policies that lead to it and other such examples.

"Ooh,a 'Shiny Penny' (or 'Squirrel' if you prefer), an example of something stupid that happened in Texas schools."

My vote is for #3, but I am willing to be convinced otherwise.

I mentioned Texas because it's in the Sun Belt. A Texas school banning sunscreen seems to me more stupid than, say, a school in Portland, Oregon (where it rains approximately 500 days per year), doing so. --Bob
