Ebay really needs to monitor their auctions, so that they don't lose credibility altogether. Yeah right some idiot is going to buy this worthless item for a ton of money! I wonder how the person who won the pin made it that far in the mock hotseat? Actually it's a one out of 47 of a kind according to the auctioner himself.

One can always ask for any amount for anything. But the spread between that and the bid might be a tad excessive.

I forget how eBay operates. Do they charge a fixed price for listing an item and then a percentage of the sale price, if the sale is completed? Having a sliding scale for the listing fee, based on the asking price, might discourage the number of "pie-in-the-sky" listings, if that's a concern, ds.

My husband has a complete set Play It Pins as well and I believe that it's not worth $500,000. I would say that the package is probably not even worth $1,000.

BTW, coasterick, this thread from a couple weeks ago went on a tangent about the price of annual passes to Disneyland. A comparison was made to Cedar Point. Since that park particularly features rollercoasters and you're a big coaster fan, perhaps you'd like to offer your opinion?

Okay. You're crazy. If logic or common sense enter into the equation, these items are worth more to the person who actually won them than they are to anyone else. I hope I'm wrong. Good luck!

I can't imagine anyone paying that much. I would agree with PSM that the true worth is much closer to $1000 real money.

Now that the WWTBAM attractions in CA and FL are gone, I think that the demand for such items (which was never high to begin with) would be less than previously.

I actually think that the 500,000 point pins might be even rarer. Most people above the 32k level will "go for broke", and either win the million (rare) or fall back to the 32k polo shirt and pins. I was one of the few to walk away with a 500k pin, since I was ineligible to win another 1M prize package at the time (which was a good thing, since I would've gotten the final question wrong anyway).

Congrats! Did he win at Calif Adv or WDW? I was one question away from winning another cruise at WDW, and at that time, the host said no one had ever won at both parks. Alas, 'twas not to be.

What I didn't know helped me win the prize, as well as stuff I did know. The million point question was about a GB Shaw Play; the only one of the choices that I knew for sure that he wrote, was Man and Superman. Luckily that was the answer.

Aren't things like this worth whatever each individual thinks they are worth? Why wouldn't you think the package is worth $1000? Has eBay ever sold a million point pin? To me, that experience at WWTBAM-PI! was worth a million bucks in and of itself. So by that rationale, I'm giving the buyer a heckuva deal! I will be sad to see the pins go, even at the price listed.

I checked for a definitive worth online, but could not find any million point pins listed anywhere.

Funny you should mention this; my son is graduating HS this year, and as part of his present we are headed to Cedar Point. Cedar Fair now charges $150 for an all-park season pass, more than a pass to Cedar Point only. Used to be that we could buy a season pass at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City for $65 and use it for a year at any Cedar Fair Park. Now that CF purchased the Paramount chain of parks, I guess they felt justified in raising the multi-park price. I would be surprised if Six Flags didn't follow suit in the coming years.

BUT, there is simply no place else like Disneyland. I would buy a season pass in a heartbeat if I went there enough. (Which I can afford to do, once my pin collection sells!)

Yes, but I think the author was referring to the fact that few people got to the 500,000 point pin, and then stopped.

OTOH, you're right, Ed (they don't call you smarty pants year after year for nothing); it is impossible to have won the million point pin without winning the 500,000 in as well.

I stand by my previous statement, although I will qualify it here:

Additional 1,000,000-pt pins were made as "Cast Member Only" handouts. I know, because I have one [I traded a 32k prize kit {hat/shirt/10 pins} with a cast member]. It is true that these cast member 1M pins are not exactly the same as the numbered guest-only pins [the only difference being the engraving on the back], but I believe this makes the 500k pins the rarest.

That's the point. That was your experience. Prospective buyers wouldn't be getting that experience, which is the truly priceless part of being a winner.

Amateur. I have a SPARE Million-Point set that I've been considering selling on eBay for 4 years now. (I was winner 4 and winner 32 at DCA.) I was also one question away from the bicoastal win, and blew it.

HOWEVER, I'll never ever ever sell either of my 1,000,000 point pins. I'll sell the BHM (Big Honkin' Medallion) and jacket, and all of the other pins, but the million stays right where it is.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 500K pin alone would go for a couple of hundred (Disney pin collectors are a weird bunch, and something as rare as the 500K pin (or the million-point pin, which I'd never sell) would be worth something to them; ditto the jacket and BHM. The up-to-32K-inclusives aren't worth squat, unfortunately (I don't think I've ever seen the set up to 32K go for more than $50), but the others are very very rare, something the Disney-pin-oholics pay for.

Some day, I'll figure out how to put something up on eBay and start selling that stuff...

I've been sorely tempted to put my 500K pin up for the same reason. I think it's probably the "most attainable" rare pin of the set. I won't part with lucky 124, but the rest are taking up space in a junk drawer, to be honest.

Heh. Maybe I should hock it on ebay to help pay the taxes on the cruise, which are falling due in this tax year.
