The Ultimate QoD Challenge -- Week 5, Thursday

#1 Post by Pastor Fireball » Thu May 08, 2014 5:00 am

"Ten!"

If you read one of Monday's questions and thought, "Where have all of the Bible questions been so far?", you're in luck today and tomorrow!

"More Typos from the Word of Gob"

The Bible errata that you saw on Monday were all accidental. Today, you're going to see some deliberate misprints. There are ten Bible quotes below. I've removed a word from each quote and replaced it with something more modern and more entertaining. It shouldn't be too hard to find them. I've underlined them. While these updates are good for a quick laugh, you'll have to fix the verses if you expect to earn any points.

You get 8 points for each accurate correction (according to the King James version) that you can make. There is also the bet percentage that you have to make on tomorrow's "Fat Chance" Bible questions. That's right. I said the plural of "question", which is not "questia". There will be more than one "Fat Chance" question tomorrow. You don't have to answer all of them correctly. You just have to give me more correct answers than forfeit answers to win your bet. Make your bets based on that information. Call it a little pre-vacation surprise.

Answers are due by Friday at 4 PM EDT.

1. In the beginning God created the heaven and the Buffalo Wild Wings. (Genesis 1:1)
2. Remember the Doris day, to keep it holy. (Exodus 20:8)
3. I can do all things through Viagra which strengtheneth me. (Philippians 4:13)
4. And now abideth faith, hope, The Old Phone Game, these three; but the greatest of these is The Old Phone Game. (1 Corinthians 13:13)
5. ... Get thee behind me, Eminem: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men. (Mark 8:33)
6. An Tea Party supporter with his mouth destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered. (Proverbs 11:9)
7. ... I am come that they might have "Press Your Luck" reruns, and that they might have it more abundantly. (John 10:10)
8. And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was LeBron James, and Hell followed with him. (Revelation 6:8)
9. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his 5,000 shares of Microsoft; and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matthew 6:33)
10. But the men of Flint, Michigan, were wicked and sinners before the Lord exceedingly. (Genesis 13:13)

I've not participated in this so far, but since it's right in my wheelhouse, I can't resist.
Word
1. earth (Hebrew 'eretz)
2. Sabbath
3. Christ
4. charity (since you're using the KJV - the word is "agape" which is better translated as "love"; the Vulgate translated it as "caritas", from which the KJV translators derived "charity")
5. Satan
6. hypocrite
7. life
8. Death
9. righteousness
10. Sodom

I assume you've heard the one about the dyslexic atheist who didn't believe in dog.

Excellent scores from everybody today.

1. In the beginning God created the heaven and the Buffalo Wild Wings. -- earth

But Buffalo Wild Wings feels like Heaven to me.

2. Remember the Doris day, to keep it holy. -- sabbath

3. I can do all things through Viagra which strengtheneth me. -- Christ

If your Christ last more than four hours, consult your clergyman.

4. And now abideth faith, hope, The Old Phone Game, these three; but the greatest of these is The Old Phone Game. -- charity/love

"Charity" is the word used in the actual text, but "love" is an acceptable alternate here. Remember, we translate the New Testament from Greek.

5. ... Get thee behind me, Eminem: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men. -- Satan

I could probably get away with this rewrite, since there isn't much difference between the two.

6. An Tea Party supporter with his mouth destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered. -- hypocrite

Again, not much difference between the two.

7. ... I am come that they might have "Press Your Luck" reruns, and that they might have it more abundantly. -- life

8. And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was LeBron James, and Hell followed with him. -- Death

9. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his 5,000 shares of Microsoft; and all these things shall be added unto you. -- righteousness

10. But the men of Flint, Michigan, were wicked and sinners before the Lord exceedingly. -- Sodom

There were any number of U.S. cities that could fit into this rewrite. San Francisco. Las Vegas. Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Dayton. Yeah, I can rip on Dayton because I used to live there.

Not surprisingly, first-time participant earendel had a perfect score. If nothing else, he can say that he won this round.

5/5 + 5/6 + 5/7 + 5/8 Scores (9 participants)
Bob Juch - 14 + 20 + 20 + 64 = 118
franktangredi - 10 + 12 + 12 + 56 = 90
ShamelessWeasel - 8 + 14 + 12 + 56 = 90
earendel - 0 + 0 + 0 + 80 = 80
smilergrogan - 4 + 8 + 8 + 48 = 72
Bob78164 - 4 + 6 + 8 + 48 = 66
jarnon - 6 + 8 + 0 + 48 = 62
kroxquo - 8 + 4 + 0 + 0 = 12
themanintheseersuckersuit - 6 + 6 + 0 + 0 = 12
