Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

1. Chichén Itzá -- Mexico

Home of the famous El Castillo step-pyramid.

2. Hagia Sophia -- Turkey

It was a church in Constantinople. Now it's a museum in Istanbul.

3. Statue of the Little Mermaid -- Denmark

If you knew that Hans Christian Andersen wrote "The Little Mermaid", then you had this one in the bag.

4. Prasat Angkor Wat -- Cambodia

You probably know this temple better as just Angkor Wat, but its proper full name includes the "Prasat" in front of its name.

5. Petra -- Jordan

Ancient city famous for the rose-colored stone into which its buildings were carved.

6. Sagrada Familia -- Spain

Barcelona church famous for its unique spires.

7. Victoria Falls -- Zambia or Zimbabwe

It's on the border, so I could accept either answer.

8. Schönbrunn Palace -- Austria

Famous summer residence of the Habsburg family.

9. Potala Palace -- China or Tibet

One-time home of the Dalai Lama, it is perhaps Tibet's most famous building. I would have accepted Tibet even though it's not actually a country. (Don't tell Richard Gere I said that.)

10. Uluru -- Australia

You probably know this better by its English name: Ayers Rock.

Bob J and TMITSSS know their world landmarks. They each got a perfect score... but can they beat me in the "Fat Chance"?

4/21 + 4/22 + 4/23 + 4/24 Scores (11 participants)
Bob Juch - 8 + 14 + 14 + 40 = 76
ShamelessWeasel - 4 + 9 + 30 + 24 = 67
smilergrogan - 6 + 8 + 12 + 36 = 62
themanintheseersuckersuit - 0 + 8 + 0 + 40 = 48
plasticene - 5 + 6 + 0 + 32 = 43
kroxquo - 2 + 4 + 0 + 28 = 34
franktangredi - 1 + 5 + 4 + 20 = 30
jarnon - 3 + 3 + 0 + 24 = 30
Bob78164 - 0 + 3 + 0 + 20 = 23
christie1111 - 0 + 0 + 2 + 0 = 2
MarleysGh0st - 0 + 2 + 0 + 0 = 2
