The Ultimate QoD Challenge -- Week 2, Friday
Let's reveal those wagers!
Bob Juch - 100% of 75 = 75
themanintheseersuckersuit - 100% of 33 = 33
plasticene - 50% of 51 = 25.5
ShamelessWeasel - 25% of 69 = 17.25
MarleysGh0st - 50% of 33 = 16.5
Bob78164 - 50% of 32 = 16
kroxquo - 55% of 26 = 14.3
christie1111 - 50% of 16 = 8
jarnon - 10% of 29 = 2.9
franktangredi - 5% of 50 = 2.5
Appa23 - 0% of 0 = 0
smilergrogan - 0% of 44 = 0
Bob J and Suitguy are feeling lucky this week. If Bob gets the correct answer, he will have a commanding lead in this contest. Of course, there are still ten weeks of questions to ask, so who knows what will happen? I know what will happen if somebody gives a predictable and wrong answer to today's question... so don't do it, mmm'kay? Only the correct answer will double your bet.
What is the title of the current national anthem of Australia?
Your answer is due by Monday at 4 PM EDT.

Based on the intro I'm assuming it's not Waltzing Matilda, but since I have no other guess, I'm going with that

By a slight margin, I'm going to guess Waltzing Matilda over Down Under. What do I know?

In a Sunburned Land
Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Re: The Ultimate QoD Challenge -- Week 2, Friday
OK, I'm here. I was busy buying up some discount Easter candy at my local Kroger. And my kids aren't getting any of it. They had their candy yesterday. Now it's Daddy's turn.
But how sweet was Friday's question to all of you?
What is the title of the current national anthem of Australia?
There is one song that almost everybody associates with Australia, and it's a wrong answer. No, I'm not talking about "Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree" (or as it's known today, "Down Under" by Men at Work). I'm talking about "Waltzing Matilda". That is Australia's most famous folk song, but it has never been its national anthem. Some call it Australia's "unofficial national anthem", even though that phrase is an oxymoron. So you lost your bet if you answered that.
If you smelled that "Waltzing Matilda" trap a mile away and decided instead to go with "God Save the Queen"... whoops! Another trap! That used to be Australia's national anthem, but it was dropped in 1974. Also a forfeit answer.
It's a good thing I looked this answer up because I also would have lost my bet if I were playing this question. The correct answer is "Advance Australia Fair". A national vote (or "plebiscite") for Australia's anthem was held in 1977. "Advance Australia Fair" won with 43% of the vote. "Waltzing Matilda" placed second with 28%. Only 19% of Aussies voted to keep "God Save the Queen".
Two players--jarnon and plasticene--came up with the correct answer, meaning that plasticene finishes as this week's top scorer. Four people officially went with "Waltzing Matilda" and Bob##### officially went with "God Save the Queen". Bob J suspected that "Waltzing Matilda" was wrong, but didn't officially answer it or anything else. That was a good thing because he keeps the lead after two full weeks of gameplay.
Oh yeah... all 12 of this week's players stayed above zero, so you all get 1 bonus point.
Week 2 Scores
plasticene - 5 + 12 + 10 + 24 + 25.5 (+ 1) = 77.5
Bob Juch - 10 + 15 + 10 + 40 + 0 (+ 1) = 76
ShamelessWeasel - 5 + 6 + 30 + 28 + 0 (+ 1) = 70
franktangredi - 7 + 13 + 6 + 24 - 2.5 (+ 1) = 48.5
smilergrogan - 6 + 8 + 10 + 20 + 0 (+ 1) = 45
themanintheseersuckersuit - 5 + 4 + 0 + 24 + 0 (+ 1) = 34
jarnon - 5 + 12 + 0 + 12 + 2.9 (+ 1) = 32.9
Appa23 - 0 + 20 + 0 + 0 + 0 (+ 1) = 21
MarleysGh0st - 3 + 6 + 0 + 24 - 16.5 (+ 1) = 17.5
Bob78164 - 4 + 8 + 0 + 20 - 16 (+ 1) = 17
kroxquo - 4 + 6 + 0 + 16 - 14.3 (+ 1) = 12.7
