One of the 1st jobs I tried out for as a teen was punching punch cards to be fed into some kind of calculating system. We will not actually demean the term "computer" by calling it that, but I didn't get the job because my 1st stack of punched cards wasn't perfect, i.e. all the little holes on one of them didn't line up.



At one job long ago, I was the person in charge of a computer system, a real computer by then, that had a memory that disappeared if the machine was unplugged. Everybody had their resume on this machine, as the company was going out of business. (This was in line with the future of computers as we now know them; not to actually compute anything, but to store text.) Part of my job was guarding the plug from mishaps.


At another long-term job, the 1st computer system we used, software & hardware was by Digital.


And I am a C programmer. Anybody want a C programmer?

Facebook is not only evil but extremely poorly organized, & as you know their privacy settings (a) don't work & (b) mean nothing. I am on it though, for various reasons I shouldn't go into here.

If you know C, you could learn C++, C#, or Java fairly easily.

Since you're one of the few who has an interest in appearing on the show I do have a tidbit of unusual information... a friend here in LA was called in last week by a contestant coordinator working for WWTBAM to go in and do a run-through for the show. It was held at the ABC studios. They were paid to play the game (not a whole lot) and were given bonus money if they advanced during gameplay. And due to non-disclosure forms that were signed, I have no idea if it was for tweaking the game or interviewing possible new hosts. Let the speculations begin...

But somehow, time has been having an effect on me. I remember when computers were supposed to be computers, that sat on your desktop*, instead of phones. And programs were programs, not apps.

That feeling still happens with me at times, as the phones can't do everything and for many things I need a 'real' computer.

This afternoon, my iPhone vibrated with new Facebook app notifications including a friend request with a familiar name. I was like this has got to be a Bored Buddy I've gotten to know by the BB name, but which one? Got to get home to a real computer and pull up Facebook or the Bored.

Awww. And I just sent one to you. After I realized that that real-e-mail letter I got from another dual-place denizen telling me to send a friend request to (Marley's human name) was referring to you. I am very dense some times.


At any rate, I will now go on to EFB "properly" & see what's up. You by now are finding out that anything posted in the Bored Ark thread gets turned around & sent back to you as real email. Unless you've figured how to turn that off. Until my gmail gets completely filled I'm not looking up how to undo EFB gum-ups.


Usually friend requests to me, since I log on to EFB so seldom, wind up being sent by EFB as real emails. Eventually. Accompanied by "you've missed so much wonderfulness of EFB since you last logged in".

And if I haven't accepted a couple friend requests yet, it's because I'm still trying to match up an unfamiliar real name with a Bored name.

I'm leaning towards an Android model.

And that's what I now have, a Samsung Galaxy Ring with service through Virgin Mobile. Signal strength is on the low side, here at home, but reception was still decent when I made a test call to my sister.

There's a lot for me to learn about using the phone. The first test, simply trying to answer the phone, was a failure. Pushing the phone icon isn't enough, I have to push and swipe!

But now that that's out of the way, I've been working on updating my contact list info in my GMail account. The phone automatically synchs the info from there.

So...if anyone else uses an Android model, I'd be glad to hear your suggestions about your favorite apps.
