Lyrically Speaking - 3/10/14

#1 Post by Gimme A Squiggly » Mon Mar 10, 2014 6:27 am

Can it be that we're already in the final week of the 2014 LSWE, and that means this is the final Mecca Monday of the year? Sad but true, this will be the final game LB allows me to present before I log off and head back for the crypt. I have had a lot of fun sharing the sadistic music I enjoy playing with you, and I know you'll all be heading for your nearest Mecca once the game is over to hang out and sing along with the CD I put together (and don't forget to have your store turn up the volume for you... smiler!) For my final tribute to the 2013 Summer CD, here are 12 songs from that 10 hours of aural bliss that I didn't find room for in any of the previous games. Time to bring your final purchases up to the lighted checkouts and.... oh, excuse me...

Attention associates, can I get LB back to the office please for severe discipline?

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. Hide it in a hiding place where no one ever goes
Put it in your pantry with your cupcakes

2. Walkin' up the street you can hear the sound
Of some bad honky tonkers really layin' it down
They've seen it all for years and 'ave got nothin' to lose
So get out on the floor shimmy 'til you shake sumpin' loose

3. You know the bed feels warmer
Sleeping here alone
You know I dream in color
And do the things I want

4. The smell of your skin lingers on me now
You're probably on your flight
Back to your home town
I need some shelter of my own protection, baby
To be with myself and center, clarity
Peace, Serenity

5. Here I am staring at your perfection
In my arms, so beautiful
The sky is getting bright, the stars are burning out
Somebody slow it down

6. When I`m driving in my car
And the man comes on the radio
He`s telling me more and more
About some useless information
Supposed to fire my imagination

7. She'll lie and steal and cheat, and beg you from her knees
Make you thinks she means it this time
She'll tear a hole in you, the one you can't repair
But I still love her, I don't really care

8. She drives real fast
And she drives real hard
She`s the terror of
Colorado Boulevard

9. I can hear the bullfrog calling me
Wonder if my rope's
Still hanging to the tree

10. I'm holding on your rope
Got me ten feet off the ground
And I'm hearing what you say
But I just can't make a sound

11. I mention you when I say my prayers
I wrap you around all of my thoughts
Boy, you're my temporary high
I wish that when I wake up you're there

12. After all, it was a great big world
With lots of places to run to
And if she had to die trying
She had one little promise
She was gonna keep

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist you would put on the Mecca CD.

5 point Bonus: The 2013 Mecca Summer CD began with The Beach Boys' "Kokomo" and would end 10 hours later with which of the songs above?

You're expecting another Celtic song from me, aren't you? Time for something different. I've liked this song since I saw the movie, and I've particularly been thinking about it since seeing the recent events in Kiev. I play it here, with the hope that real life won't have the same ending as the movie.

Here's one they should really turn the volume up for, in honor of Sam's and my common HS alma mater:
MR. KEWPIE, Hickman High School Marching Band and Pep Squad
---"They always call him Mr Kewpie,
they always call him Mr K,
he can run and he can throw,
give him a ball and just look at him go.
Hip, hip-hooray for Mr. Kewpie,
he's gonna win it today!
So give a great big cheer
for the hero of the year,
Mr. Kewpie,
Co-lum-bi-a".

Gimme A Squiggly

"Big Squirrels Don't Cry" - Fergie

5. Here I am staring at your perfection
In my arms, so beautiful
The sky is getting bright, the stars are burning out
Somebody slow it down

6. When I`m driving in my car
And the man comes on the radio
He`s telling me more and more
About some useless information
Supposed to fire my imagination

"(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" - The Rolling Stones (and Devo)

7. She'll lie and steal and cheat, and beg you from her knees
Make you thinks she means it this time
She'll tear a hole in you, the one you can't repair
But I still love her, I don't really care

8. She drives real fast
And she drives real hard
She`s the terror of
Colorado Boulevard

"The Little Old Lady From Pasadena" - Jan & Dean

9. I can hear the bullfrog calling me
Wonder if my rope's
Still hanging to the tree

10. I'm holding on your rope
Got me ten feet off the ground
And I'm hearing what you say
But I just can't make a sound

11. I mention you when I say my prayers
I wrap you around all of my thoughts
Boy, you're my temporary high
I wish that when I wake up you're there

12. After all, it was a great big world
With lots of places to run to
And if she had to die trying
She had one little promise
She was gonna keep

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist you would put on the Mecca CD.

"Margaritaville" - Jimmy Buffett

5 point Bonus: The 2013 Mecca Summer CD began with The Beach Boys' "Kokomo" and would end 10 hours later with which of the songs above?

1. Hide it in a hiding place where no one ever goes
Put it in your pantry with your cupcakes
Mrs. Robinson - Simon & Garfunkel (Rhymin' Simon had four songs in the Summer CD... and only one on the other three combined...)

2. Walkin' up the street you can hear the sound
Of some bad honky tonkers really layin' it down
They've seen it all for years and 'ave got nothin' to lose
So get out on the floor shimmy 'til you shake sumpin' loose
The House Is Rockin' - Stevie Ray Vaughan

3. You know the bed feels warmer
Sleeping here alone
You know I dream in color
And do the things I want
Stronger - Kelly Clarkson

4. The smell of your skin lingers on me now
You're probably on your flight
Back to your home town
I need some shelter of my own protection, baby
To be with myself and center, clarity
Peace, Serenity
Big Girls Don't Cry - Fergie

5. Here I am staring at your perfection
In my arms, so beautiful
The sky is getting bright, the stars are burning out
Somebody slow it down
Daylight - Maroon 5

6. When I`m driving in my car
And the man comes on the radio
He`s telling me more and more
About some useless information
Supposed to fire my imagination
Satisfaction - Devo and that British group (LSWe vets should know by now they will always be rewarded for answering Devo to this song!)

7. She'll lie and steal and cheat, and beg you from her knees
Make you thinks she means it this time
She'll tear a hole in you, the one you can't repair
But I still love her, I don't really care
Stubborn Love - Lumineers (God, and I thought Ho Hey was bad. This song is a festering piece of shiite....)

8. She drives real fast
And she drives real hard
She`s the terror of
Colorado Boulevard
Little Old Lady From Pasadena - Jan & Dean (This song followed Surf City, making this pair the only back to back songs from the same artist on any of the four CD's...)

9. I can hear the bullfrog calling me
Wonder if my rope's
Still hanging to the tree
Green River - CCR

10. I'm holding on your rope
Got me ten feet off the ground
And I'm hearing what you say
But I just can't make a sound
Apologize - OneRepublic

11. I mention you when I say my prayers
I wrap you around all of my thoughts
Boy, you're my temporary high
I wish that when I wake up you're there
Sweet Dreams - Beyonce

12. After all, it was a great big world
With lots of places to run to
And if she had to die trying
She had one little promise
She was gonna keep
American Girl - Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers

5 point Bonus: The 2013 Mecca Summer CD began with The Beach Boys' "Kokomo" and would end 10 hours later with which of the songs above?

#7 - Stubborn Love (The Mecca CD's have a tendency to end on a sour note... with a shitty John Mayer song [yes, that's redundant] ending the Winter '13 CD, this crap at the end of the Summer CD, and that goddamn "100 Years" by Five For Fighting the last song on the Fall CD.... oh, and I failed to realize I was setting you all up to answer Jan & Dean. My bad...)
