Get Travoltified!
In case you missed it, John Travolta butchered Idina Menzel's name while he introduced her at the Oscars last night. Whether he just couldn't see the cue cards, or was wasted, or what, there's really no excuse. This is in that "You had one job" category.
As you might expect, this has taken the internet by storm. It took less than 24 hours for a site to be set up so that you can see what your name would be if John Travolta was introducing you. Try it out. I am now Mitchel Keezy.

Re: Get Travoltified!
I'm glad to have that clarified. That other people are saying "what huh". I thought maybe he knew something the rest of us didn't know about "her real name", maybe.
I had heard a big piece on NPR about how the publicity people for "Frozen" had Menzel sing the song in a trillion diff languages, then put out job offers for singers in a trillion diff additional languages even Mendel can't sing in. This is because they released "Frozen" simultaneously in about 2 x a trillion locations world-wide, to ward off low-grade counterfeit DVDs, figuring people would rather pay a little more to get the movie actually dubbed in their own language.
So I had it hammered into my head that Menzel will be singing the song on the Oscars. The charm of the song escapes me, by the way; "Let it Go" makes me think you're losing something, not getting up close & personal with your own superpowers. But I wish "Let it Go" lovers well, etc.
So when Travolta got the nudge-nudge wink-wink part of the cue cards about "this is a wicked* performance" right & then announced some other singer, I was befuddled. Tried to convince myself it wasn't Mendel, whom I've seen (on TV) before. And wonder what could have kept Menzel away from that great Oscar-night exposure. In spite of the fact that I'd heard her do the song on that NPR piece, & knew it was her.
Ellen DG did seemingly-offhandedly let drop that "that was Idina Menzel" at the end of the song. Class act, that recovery.
*The "wicked" ref is because, for any buried under a very insulating pile of rocks, she originated the title character of "Wicked" on Broadway & played it there forever.

Re: Get Travoltified!
So how many people would have said a word about Travolta's appearance had his intro been... "Ladies and gentlemen, Idina Menzel!"?
Instead, he's been the talk of Twitter and the blogiverse (after everybody got over Kim Novak) and now he even has a name generator and has become a verb. Menzel has done pretty well on the extra press as well.
Really fubared there, didn't he? Not so much......
