Lyrically Speaking - 3/4/14

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Tue Mar 04, 2014 4:17 am

In the spirit of VH1 Classic's old Tuesday Twoplay feature that inspired the title I gave these Tuesday Wordplay games, you get a double dose of LSWE today! And better yet, neither of them are loaded with recent music for elwood to grouse about! Hooray!!! What a fabulous way to kick off LSWE Week Number Nine, Number Nine, Number Nine....

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist....

1. Now I'm a jet fuel genius
I can solve the world's problems without even trying
I've got dozens of friends, and the fun never ends
That is as long as I'm buying

2. You know I'm not one to break promises
I don't want to hurt you but I need to breathe
At the end of it all, you're still my best friend
But there's something inside that I need to release

3. Time has gone since I've been with you, and we've been starting to die.
Now it seems you don't care for me, and I don't understand why

4. I went to my brother to see what he could do
He said Brother I'd like to help but I'm unable to
So called on my father, father
Almighty father, he said

5. Modern medicine falls short of your complaints
Ooh, try a little harder
You're moving in circles,
won't you dilate
Baby try

6. Somewhere in the distance I hear the bells ring
Darkness settles on the town as the children start to sing
The lady 'cross the street she shuts out the night
There's a cast of thousands waiting as she turns out the light

7. I'm a model you know what I mean
And I do my little turn on the catwalk
Yeah on the catwalk on the catwalk yeah
I do my little turn on the catwalk

8. Flyin' high we never took the time
To stop and feel the need
Funny how those years go by
Changing you, changing me

9. It used to be so easy living here with you
You were light and breezy and I knew just what to do
Now you look so unhappy, and I feel like a fool

10. My mama told me, she said, "Boy, please beware.
There's this thing called love and it's everywhere"
She tells me, "It can break your heart and leave you in misery"

11. You and me girl got a highway to the sky
We can turn away from the night and day
And the tears you had to cry
You're my life..

12. Wish on a rainbow is all I can do
Dream of the good times that we never knew
No late nights in alone in your arms
I'll dream on

Spoiler
1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist....

1. Now I'm a jet fuel genius
I can solve the world's problems without even trying
I've got dozens of friends, and the fun never ends
That is as long as I'm buying

WAG I'm Too Sexy - Right Said Fred

It's Too Late - Carole King. I think I've said this before, but the first three songs of Tapestry - "I Feel The Earth Move", "So Far Away", and this one all feel like one continuous story of a tragic tale. Brilliance on her part intentional or not.

There's about 5 or 6 that are really familiar but I'm not getting.

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that contains the magic word of the day in its title. I don't think (but I could be wrong) that Too Much Too Little Too Late - Johnny Mathis and Denice Williams is up there, and I think using th magic word three times in a title is worth extra credit

Mecca Bonus: One of the songs above has been on the Mecca CD. Which number? #9(1 possible point)

5 Point Bonus: What Presidential slogan was associated with the winner of the Election of 1840? Tippecanoe and Tyler Too

Spoiler
1. Now I'm a jet fuel genius
I can solve the world's problems without even trying
I've got dozens of friends, and the fun never ends
That is as long as I'm buying

Too Much Time On My Hands - Styx

2. You know I'm not one to break promises
I don't want to hurt you but I need to breathe
At the end of it all, you're still my best friend
But there's something inside that I need to release

Shouldn't have had that burrito

3. Time has gone since I've been with you, and we've been starting to die.
Now it seems you don't care for me, and I don't understand why

4. I went to my brother to see what he could do
He said Brother I'd like to help but I'm unable to
So called on my father, father
Almighty father, he said

5. Modern medicine falls short of your complaints
Ooh, try a little harder
You're moving in circles,
won't you dilate
Baby try

6. Somewhere in the distance I hear the bells ring
Darkness settles on the town as the children start to sing
The lady 'cross the street she shuts out the night
There's a cast of thousands waiting as she turns out the light

7. I'm a model you know what I mean
And I do my little turn on the catwalk
Yeah on the catwalk on the catwalk yeah
I do my little turn on the catwalk

8. Flyin' high we never took the time
To stop and feel the need
Funny how those years go by
Changing you, changing me

9. It used to be so easy living here with you
You were light and breezy and I knew just what to do
Now you look so unhappy, and I feel like a fool

It's Too Late - Carole King

10. My mama told me, she said, "Boy, please beware.
There's this thing called love and it's everywhere"
She tells me, "It can break your heart and leave you in misery"

Too Late To Turn Back Now - Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose

11. You and me girl got a highway to the sky
We can turn away from the night and day
