Re: Lyrically Speaking - 2/28/14
1. You met your match when you met me
I know that you will disagree it's crazy
But opposites attract you'll see
And I won't let you get away so easy
Causing a Commotion - Madonna
2. Your faith and patience will be your soldiers
To guide you through your troubled times
Just put one foot in front of the other
The battles are inside your mind
Stand - Lenny Kravitz (A favorite of the Mecca CD people, who have made it my favorite Kravitz song...)
3. Nah, can I kick it? thank you. yeah I'm so damn grateful.
I grew up, really wanted gold fronts
But that's what you get when wu tang raised you
Y'all can't stop me, go hard like I got an 808 in my heart beat
And I'm eating at the beat like you gave a little speed to a great white shark on shark week
Can't Hold Us - Macklemore and Lewis (If I would have asked which Macklemore song was on the Mecca CD, I'll bet you'd have never guessed this one! I actually like it... and I can't stand Thrift Store. That song's a mess, and having funny lyrics does no good if you can't understand what's being rapped...)
4. I never made promises lightly
And there have been some that I've broken
But I swear in the days still left
Fields of Gold - Sting
5. Conquering myself until I see another hurdle approaching
Say we can, say we will
Not just another drop in the ocean
The Cutter - Echo & the Bunnymen (I have a blog follower named The Cutter. I have no idea if he chose his name from this song or not...)
6. You could be my someone
You could be my sea
You know that I`ll protect you
From all of the obscene
Blurry - Puddle of Mudd
7. If anyone can cry then so can I
I read books and draw life from the eye
All my life is drawings from the eye
Grey Seal - Elton John (I loved it when the 70's station I listed to way back when would play this song... it's fantastic!)
8. They say there's someone for everyone
And for everyone a someone
And some tattoo roses across their chests
With a heart that says Rollo
And some work without a Public Relations man
And do their best work, baby, out of sight
No Money Down - Lou Reed (Given all the fuss I made over the video to this song when Lou Reed died, and on my Flashback post on my blog, you should have seen this one coming in the MC game...)
9. Pretty girl, pretty girl, pretty girl you should be smiling
A girl like you should never look so blue
You're everything I see in my dreams
I wouldn't say that to you if it wasn't true
Treasure - Bruno Mars (I'm surprised more people didn't get this since it's the song Bruno led off the halftime show with. Yeah, I know, you were all busy watching one of those other bowls. This song is so disco era 70's, that I was shocked to learn it was recent and Bruno Mars...)
10. I never thought it would happen
I feel quite the same
I don't want to hurt you anymore
I never knew it would work out
No one to blame
99 - Toto
11. Been there, done that, messed around
I'm having fun don't put me down,
I'll never let you sweep me off my feet,
I won't let you in again, the messages I've tried to send,
My information's just not going in,
Burnin' bridges shore to shore, I'll break away from something more
Bulletproof - La Roux (Heard this one on the way to Oklahoma, and decided to slip it in this game... the music almost sounds 8-bit Nintendoish, which goes straight for my heart...)
12. I remember when he used to fight every day
What grown-ups would tell him he would never obey
He wore his pants hangin down and his sneakers untied
And a rasta-type kangol tilted to the side
The Vapors - Biz Markie (I heard this for the first time last summer when VH1-C showed the video, and I like it better than Just a Friend! I wish Fanny would have played, as I'm curious whether she would have gotten it or not...)
13. So let me thank you for your time
And try to not waste any more of mine
Get out of here fast
I hate to break it to you, babe
But I'm not drowning
There's no one here to save
King of Anything - Sara Barielles (I mentioned another Barielles song would be on tap...)
14. Take a whiff on me that ain't no rose!
Roll up yer window and hold yer nose,
You don't have to look and you don't have to see,
'Cause you can feel it in your olfactory,
Dead Skunk - Loudon Wainwright III (I can't believe I haven't used this song yet... nor can I believe how many people missed it since it's a common Krox and/or wild guess in past LSWE games...)
15. She may be right
She may be fine
She may get love
But she won`t get mine
Cause I got you
1985 - Wings (I was introduced to this song by one of my blog friends who is a huge McCartney fan...)
16. I could never see what fate had meant for me
And then you came and made my dreams match reality
Maybe you can see all the things you've meant to me
And my simple fate is at the gate and, girl, you've got the key
Fallin in Love - Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds
17. Oh, we got our feet on the ground
And we're burning it down
Oh, got our head in the clouds
And we're not coming down
Girl on Fire - Alicia Keys (They played this song while me and Sprots were bowling Saturday. I mentioned to Sprots it was in the game... it didn't help her out any....)
18. You call it chivalry
Never pull a punch for free
You ever wonder why they had to move on
This phony honor code
That puts you on your throne
A double standard
You invoke when you want
The Ghost Inside - Broken Bells (I raved about this song last year when it appeared on the first Mecca CD. Another song I tipped off....)
19. You can never understand
We can always be like water
Flowing on to find our way
Just get on with the game
It's a game
What a game
No Time To Lose - Tarney Spencer Band (This appears to be more of a local hit, though the group was from Australia. The song cracked the lower half of the Top 100...)
20. I know the moment isn't right
To tell the girl a comical line
To keep the conversation light
I guess I'm just frightened out of my mind
Leave a Tender Moment Alone - Billy Joel
21. I heard them calling in the distance
So I packed my things and ran
Far away from all the trouble
I had caused with my two hands
Mountain Sound - Of Monsters and Men (Yep, I tipped off there'd be another OMaM song coming as well...)
22. A pity she does not exist,
a shame he's not a fag
The only girl I ever loved was...
Andrew in Drag - Magnetic Fields (Just to mess with Weasel!)
23. Remember the days and the Hollywood nights
What happened to paradise
Stolen away and I can't replace it now
'cause rumors are flying
That I can't avoid
Can't Behave - Courtney Jaye (This game is full of songs I had never heard before the Mecca CD that I came to really like. It's about my only exposure to unfamiliar music I get...)
24. From rags on up to riches
Fifteen minutes you can fly
Pretty blue lights along the way
Help you right on by
Lake Shore Drive - Aliotta Haynes & Jeremiah (I really didn't think anyone would get this, since I KNOW its a local hit from way back when... but you never know, so I throw them out. Heck, ghost nabbed one of the local hits I put in a game one year...)
25. I wanna see your ______ - everybody says it's nice
Can I come and visit - I'll be at your house tonight
They tell me it's soft to touch and really smooth
I can hardly wait to feel that ______ too
Pussy - Lords of Acid (You were specifically warned about this one, and nobody got it...)

It's not fair - your Walmart plays all these different songs and I don't think the one I go to ever plays any music, at least not loud enough for me to hear it over all the screaming babies and gunfire.

Ask them to turn it up. The Independence Mecca was playing the Summer CD when I was there last May, and the Norman store is playing the same CD we are playing now. One advantage our store has is we have those foam ceiling tiles rather than an exposed ceiling, which makes for better acoustics...

Heh. This is my year to pull right-church-wrong-pew moments, I guess. And I'm so terrible at the annie bonuses. This time I actually remembered to go back and look, but didn't catch the one I got right. Except I don't know if I would have given me credit for that one, since I was quite a few words off on the title.littlebeast13 wrote:JJC Points:

You're too young to remember the movie Breaking Away, but The Cutter (or, collectively, Cutters) has a totally different meaning for those of us who spent considerable time in the Mecca that is Bloomington, Indiana.
And I'm getting better at blind guessing the songs on the Mecca CD, apparently.

Too much hassle trying to figure out an easy way to cut down the quoted material, so I'm just doing a straight reply to the answer post.
Dammit, I was going to play but then I got involved with watching the Oscars and whatnot and didn't even bother to look today because by the time I would have gotten here it was already mid morning....
Super Bowl Halftime Reactions:
Me and my sister: BRUNO!!!!!!!111 SQUEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!11
My brother: Uh....I thought disco was dead.....
Baby squirrel, you so sexy.... I still have no idea what that means, but every time I heard that song (which was A LOT the latter part of last year) I'd think "I need to turn lb onto this""
I would not have gotten the Biz song, but I was pissed at you using Macklemore & Ryan Lewis because I wanted to krox White Walls, a vastly superior song.
I thought TImber was your current jam, but I'm seeing a distinct lack of trees in this game......

The Baby Squirrel part was obviously not included in the Mecca CD cut. I only learned of its existence by looking the song up on YouTube...
If I was going to work in a song from the last year that I didn't manage to find a LSWE game for, it would've been Blurred Lines. Then again, I'm thinking of redoing my finale, so you never know....
