I predict they'll go to a bunch of films I've never seen.
But I'll be watching The Walking Dead, so I'll wait for the news reports in the morning.

Re: No Oscar picks?
I already put up my picks on my Facebook page. Bob and I agree on 5 of the 6 major categories.
Best Animated Film: Frozen
Best Adapted Screenplay: The Wolf of Wall Street
Best Original Screenplay: Her
Best Director: Alfonso Cuaron, Gravity (The technical achievements of this film is why I'm not picking Scorsese.)
Best Supporting Actor: Jared Leto, Dallas Buyers Club
Best Supporting Actress: Jennifer Lawrence, American Hustle (A slight favorite for me over Lupita Nyong'o, 12 Years a Slave.)
Best Actor: Leonardo DiCaprio, The Wolf of Wall Street (I don't think the Academy will give an Oscar to Matthew McConaughey for the same reason that they wouldn't give one to Eddie Murphy, Bill Murray, or Jim Carrey. It's hard to take him seriously and he's been in too many turd films.)
Best Actress: Cate Blanchett, Blue Jasmine (Lock pick of the century.)
Best Picture: 12 Years a Slave (This would be Brad Pitt's first Oscar, as he is a co-producer.)

Re: No Oscar picks?
Eddie Murphy would have won the Oscar but he shot his mouth off too much and acted too much like Eddie Murphy during the runup to the Oscars and alienated a bunch of voters (plus, he had Norbit, which came out at about the same time). It's typical Murphy that he walked out of the ceremony after he lost.Pastor Fireball wrote: Best Actor: Leonardo DiCaprio, The Wolf of Wall Street (I don't think the Academy will give an Oscar to Matthew McConaughey for the same reason that they wouldn't give one to Eddie Murphy, Bill Murray, or Jim Carrey. Matthew McConnaughey consciously decided to reinvent himself as an actor about five years ago. He could still be playing mindless romantic comedies opposite Kate Hudson for the next decade if he wanted, but he took a couple of years off to get out of the limelight and then sought out challenging, often low paying roles (Bernie, Mud, The Paperboy, Killer Joe). None of these were "typical" McConnaughey roles but together they showed him off as a complete actor.
What really won the Oscar for him was his appearance on True Detective on HBO. This is one of the most genuinely creepy, bizarre performances you'll see on television, and with two episodes left in the series, you still can't say with any certainty if he's a good guy or a bad guy. He's got to be the favorite for this year's Emmy as well. Voters have had the opportunity to watch him on True Detective while they're considerting their Oscar votes.

Re: No Oscar picks?
When Jared Leto was up there getting his Oscar, I thought of an interview I heard Chris Rock give about a decade ago when he had his big starring role in Head of State. He talked about how he had just made this horrible movie (Bad Company) with Anthony Hopkins where he basically had to play second banana to Hopkins but he didn't mind because Hopkins was one of the greatest actors of our time and he felt he could learn. So then the next role he was offered was playing second banana to Jared Leto and he said he drew the line there, this was Hollywood's typical racial mentality (which is to some extent true but not nearly what it once was) and he wasn't going to "carry the bags" for Jared Leto. He then predicted Head of State, which he said he did his way would be his ticket to making it to the top his way.
Fast forward a decade. Now Jared Leto has an Oscar and Chris Rock's career is reduced to playing an animated zebra and third banana to Adam Sandler and Kevin James in movies that get tons of Razzie nominations. Funny how things happen.

I looked it up to be sure, so I can safely tell Barkhad Abdi that the Screen Actors Guild does, indeed, have a dental plan.
