I'm your guide for the USC campus, the museums of Exposition Park (including the space shuttle Endeavour) and downtown LA. I can't really help you with hotel prices just opinions about their locations.
I believe in the usefulness of useless information.

I've stayed at this motel many times. It's on Little Santa Monica near Overland. It's closer to Westwood than Beverly Hills.
It was formerly a Rodeway Inn.

The accommodations are very basic. I found it clean and safe. That stated, my standards require a bed and a shower, reasonable quietude and a good price and not much more.
It just all depends on how important accommodations are for you. This motel has location and price going for it.

I was not aware that it unbranded itself from Rodeway and evidently now is an independent motel.

Are you sure it wasn't a Travelodge? It may be a good place but is it better than others in the tourist areas?

I recommended hotels I've actually stayed in in areas where I figure a tourist would like to stay. Others have picked ones in terrible locations for a tourist.

My ex and I decided at the last minute to visit Hearst Castle and got in without reservations. However, they have four tours, and we ended up on the one we would have put at the bottom of the list.

I loved the area -- it's unique in my experience.

I had tried to get in three times before so on my trip I took with part of my BAM winnings I made reservations (the same for the D&S RR and a bunch of other things).

That's what happened when MarleysMom and I went there, some years ago. We got to see the guest house and the swimming pools, which were fantastic enough, but everyone wants the tour of the main house.
