Lyrically Speaking - 2/24/14

#1 Post by Gimme A Squiggly » Mon Feb 24, 2014 7:26 am

LB is a thorn in the side of my tactics to torture my employees with a repetitive mix of song of the most annoying songs ever written. He actually likes most of the Mecca CD music. But there are times when I can claim a small victory, and do the peanut butter and jelly dance! Below are 12 songs from the Summer CD that LB absolutely hated. As I watched him cringe from my great big pickup truck in the sky each time one of these songs got its turn on the CD, I couldn't help but crack a big evil grin and.... oh, excuse me...

Attention all associates! Please stand at attention and listen for an important message from our Fuhrer!

1. So show me family
All the blood that I would bleed
I don't know where I belong
I don't know where I went wrong
But I can write a song

2. I bought a megaphone
You used inside your home
Forgot the batteries
But that's the old me

3. And I`m a bad boy
Cause I don`t even miss her
I`m a bad boy for
Breaking her heart

4. You know you love me, I know you care,
You shout whenever and I'll be there.
You are my love, you are my heart
And we will never ever ever be apart.

5. The day I first met you
You told me you'd never fall in love
But now that I get you
I know fear is what it really was

6. Her nails, her nails
I could kiss them all day if she'd let me
Her laugh, her laugh
She hates but I think it's so sexy

7. The rain is falling on my windowpane
But we are hiding in a safer place
Undercover staying dry and warm
You give me feelings that I adore

8. The tricky thing
Is yesterday we were just children
Playing soldiers
Just pretending
Dreaming dreams with happy endings
In backyards, winning battles with our wooden swords
But now we've stepped into a cruel world
Where everybody stands and keeps score

9. He said I was finally the husband that most the time I wasn’t
and I became a friend a friend would like to have
and all the sudden going fishin wasn’t such an imposition
and I went three times that year I lost my dad

10. It seems that all my bridges have been burned
But you say, "That's exactly how this grace thing works"
It's not the long walk home that will change this heart
But the welcome I receive with every start

11. I've been waiting on the sunset
Bills on my mindset
I can get deny they're getting high
Higher than my income
My income's breadcrumbs
I've been trying to survive

12. When I`m out walking
I strut my stuff
Yeah, I`m so strung out
I`m high as a kite
I just might
Stop to check you out

Name another song with artist you would put on the Mecca CD to annoy someone.

5 Point Bonus: What is the bull's name in Song #9?

1. So show me family
All the blood that I would bleed
I don't know where I belong
I don't know where I went wrong
But I can write a song

Jonathan Papelbon thought he could write songs. Even worse, he thought he could dance to them. So I kicked his ass.

2. I bought a megaphone
You used inside your home
Forgot the batteries
But that's the old me

What I told those terrorists with my megaphone: WE BUILT THIS FUCKING CITY, Jefferson Starship

3. And I`m a bad boy
Cause I don`t even miss her
I`m a bad boy for
Breaking her heart

FREE FALLING, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - My little buddy Dustin Pedroia likes this one

4. You know you love me, I know you care,
You shout whenever and I'll be there.
You are my love, you are my heart
And we will never ever ever be apart.

YOU LIGHT UP MY FUCKING LIFE, Debbie Boone - Adam Dunn always tears up to this one - what a wuss

5. The day I first met you
You told me you'd never fall in love
But now that I get you
I know fear is what it really was

One of those pieces of crap that Jacoby Ellsbury is always playing in the locker room

6. Her nails, her nails
I could kiss them all day if she'd let me
Her laugh, her laugh
She hates but I think it's so sexy

I think this one is translated from Japanese by Yoko Ono or somebody - Koji and Junichi are always playing this kind of weird shit out in the bullpen

7. The rain is falling on my windowpane
But we are hiding in a safer place
Undercover staying dry and warm
You give me feelings that I adore

Big Papi doesn't know this one, so I'll just put one of my favorites: THIS FUCKING LAND IS YOUR FUCKING LAND, Woody Guthrie

8. The tricky thing
Is yesterday we were just children
Playing soldiers
Just pretending
Dreaming dreams with happy endings
In backyards, winning battles with our wooden swords
But now we've stepped into a cruel world
Where everybody stands and keeps score

Another favorite: IN THE FUCKING CITY, The Eagles

9. He said I was finally the husband that most the time I wasn’t
and I became a friend a friend would like to have
and all the sudden going fishin wasn’t such an imposition
and I went three times that year I lost my dad

This one makes Big Papi sad - it's tough losing your Papi

10. It seems that all my bridges have been burned
But you say, "That's exactly how this grace thing works"
It's not the long walk home that will change this heart
But the welcome I receive with every start

11. I've been waiting on the sunset
Bills on my mindset
I can get deny they're getting high
Higher than my income
My income's breadcrumbs
I've been trying to survive

12. When I`m out walking
I strut my stuff
Yeah, I`m so strung out
I`m high as a kite
I just might
Stop to check you out

The one about Roger Clemens: I'M NOT THAT INNOCENT, Britney Spears

Don't all of my musical choices annoy you? :P

Okay, let me choose a song I haven't used before. How about...

Darcy's Donkey - Gaelic Storm

This video has far fewer hits than some of the others for this song, but it was from another performance that I attended. Plus it's got an audience member getting up on stage for the really annoying donkey-riding bit.

I promised RadioDude that I would never listen to him again if he played Jessica Simpson's Take Your Breath Away one more time, and he never has. I think that might have been the last time anyway.

Gimme A Squiggly

Ho Hey -- Lumineers

2. I bought a megaphone
You used inside your home
Forgot the batteries
But that's the old me

3. And I`m a bad boy
Cause I don`t even miss her
I`m a bad boy for
Breaking her heart

Well, that's Free Fallin' -- Tom Petty. Hard to believe it was on a recent playlist, though.

Just the Way You Are -- Bruno Mars

7. The rain is falling on my windowpane
But we are hiding in a safer place
Undercover staying dry and warm
You give me feelings that I adore

8. The tricky thing
Is yesterday we were just children
Playing soldiers
Just pretending
Dreaming dreams with happy endings
In backyards, winning battles with our wooden swords
But now we've stepped into a cruel world
Where everybody stands and keeps score

9. He said I was finally the husband that most the time I wasn’t
and I became a friend a friend would like to have
and all the sudden going fishin wasn’t such an imposition
and I went three times that year I lost my dad

Live Like You Were Dyin' -- Sean Tuohy. I mean, Tim McGraw

10. It seems that all my bridges have been burned
But you say, "That's exactly how this grace thing works"
It's not the long walk home that will change this heart
But the welcome I receive with every start

Roll Away Your Stone -- Mumford And Sons

11. I've been waiting on the sunset
Bills on my mindset
I can get deny they're getting high
Higher than my income
My income's breadcrumbs
I've been trying to survive

12. When I`m out walking
I strut my stuff
Yeah, I`m so strung out
I`m high as a kite
I just might
Stop to check you out

Name another song with artist you would put on the Mecca CD to annoy someone. Wrecking Ball -- Miley Cyrus

5 Point Bonus: What is the bull's name in Song #9?

Well, knowing it's a country song, they probably spelled it Foo-Man-Chew.

Name another song with artist you would put on the Mecca CD to annoy someone.

Who am I annoying here? For instance, out of the 6 songs I identified here, I like 5 of them, 3 in fact scored Boneys (the Bruno and Lumineers both placed #2 in their respective years if I recall correctly), while that Sugarland song you like (Stuck Like Glue) makes me want to glue MY EARS shut so I never have to hear it again. There's this Lil Wayne song on my grandson's Madden 12 game that almost makes me wish recording technology was never invented. Or that Blake Shelton song about the boys drinkin' that ice cold beer and chew tobacco chew tobacco chew tobacco spit! that makes me want to nuke Nashville, but that song would not likely annoy much of the Mecca clientele in certain municipalities. So, who to annoy?? Aww, the hell with it...let's pick on Billy Ray's little girl again...."Wrecking Ball" by Miley Cyrus. That "Wreh-eh-eck Meeeee" part has to annoy the crap out of SOMEBODY besides just me....

1. So show me family
All the blood that I would bleed
I don't know where I belong
I don't know where I went wrong
But I can write a song
Ho Hey - Lumineers (I remember this song and the band getting a lot of buzz when it first came out. I hated it then, and I still hate it now...)

2. I bought a megaphone
You used inside your home
Forgot the batteries
But that's the old me
Let's Go - Matt & Kim (The second song by this duo I've used in the game, both from the Mecca CD's, and neither was identified by anyone. They do seem to be a somewhat obscure act, though I did hear this piece of shit song in a cell phone ad on the radio not too long ago....)

3. And I`m a bad boy
Cause I don`t even miss her
I`m a bad boy for
Breaking her heart
Free Falling - Tom Petty (I have always disliked this song, and Mecca has given me new reason to hate it since it has been on 3 of the four CD's now....)

4. You know you love me, I know you care,
You shout whenever and I'll be there.
You are my love, you are my heart
And we will never ever ever be apart.
Baby - Justin Bieber (It's really sad that the only thing salvageable about this song is the Ludacris rap...)

5. The day I first met you
You told me you'd never fall in love
But now that I get you
I know fear is what it really was
Give Your Heart a Break - Demi Lovato (Christ Almighty, this song has returned on the current CD as well. I like a lot of teeny girl pop, but not this wretched garbage...)

6. Her nails, her nails
I could kiss them all day if she'd let me
Her laugh, her laugh
She hates but I think it's so sexy
Just The Way You Are - Bruno Mars (I actually like Bruno Mars... this is the only song of his I've heard that I absolutely can't stand. So much so, in fact, that I didn't even notice the bad lyrics because I try not to pay attention to it...)

7. The rain is falling on my windowpane
But we are hiding in a safer place
Undercover staying dry and warm
You give me feelings that I adore
Bubbly - Colbie Callait (This song just plain sucks ass. I much preferred her "Brighter Than The Sun" song, which was a staple of the first CD last year...)

8. The tricky thing
Is yesterday we were just children
Playing soldiers
Just pretending
Dreaming dreams with happy endings
In backyards, winning battles with our wooden swords
But now we've stepped into a cruel world
Where everybody stands and keeps score
Eyes Open - Taylor Swift (Mecca's Taylor fascination isn't as big now as it was on the first two CD's. This one is an abomination... even worse than breakup songs she built her career off of...)

9. He said I was finally the husband that most the time I wasn’t
and I became a friend a friend would like to have
and all the sudden going fishin wasn’t such an imposition
and I went three times that year I lost my dad
Live Like You Were Dying - Tim McGraw (Quite possibly the most annoying song not only on the Summer CD, but on any of the four CD's so far. There are so many things wrong with this song:

A. It's a country song, NTTAWWT, but it doesn't help...
B. It's depressing as hell...
C. If there's one message I can't stand, it's the belief that you aren't living unless you do everything and go everywhere. Fuck that! I wish the bastard's chute wouldn't have opened when he went SKYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYDIVING!...)

10. It seems that all my bridges have been burned
But you say, "That's exactly how this grace thing works"
It's not the long walk home that will change this heart
But the welcome I receive with every start
Roll Away Your Stone - Mumford & Sons (Have I ever mentioned before just how much I hate this group? Given all the ejaculations I've seen over this band, I guess they are someone's cup of tea, but they are most certainly not mine. Mecca has put their shit that all sounds the same on every single one of the damn CD's so far...)

11. I've been waiting on the sunset
Bills on my mindset
I can get deny they're getting high
Higher than my income
My income's breadcrumbs
I've been trying to survive
Keep Your Head Up - Andy Grammer (Oh, just shut the fuck up already. It doesn't help this horrible inspirational song was on both of the first two CD's, making me more than sick of it by the time I compiled this game in July...)

12. When I`m out walking
I strut my stuff
Yeah, I`m so strung out
I`m high as a kite
I just might
Stop to check you out
Blister in the Sun - Violent Femmes (Mini would have gotten an evil laugh out of knowing I had to listen to this song for four months at Mecca. I hate this song with a passion...)
