26. This classic movie reunited the three male stars of the previous year’s Oscar winner for Best Picture.
DINNER AT EIGHT. The two Barrymores and Wallace Beery.
Lionel Barrymore, Beery and Marie Dressler as the Oscar winners in the cast.

124. A classic of the Angry Young Man school, it was the second film and first starring role for one of my favorite actors – and, according to him, the first English film to show a man in bed with another man’s wife.
Could this be SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY MORNING? I think it fits, as far as Finney's career.

Re: Game #145: It’s the Right Time For a Movie Game
Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook) hasn't been in that many films, but she did appear in The Beaver with Jodie Foster, and Silence of the Lambs is also on the list. The other costar in that was Mel Gibson (The Year of Living Dangerously). So that might work.
And as Melly pointed out Jack Albertson won an Oscar in The Subject Was Roses and costarred with Shelley Winters (Anne Frank) in The Poseidon Adventure. One of the other costars was Leslie Nielsen (Naked Gun).
I'm still not convinced this is right, because for it to work with Jean Dujardin, then the only other movie he's been in that has other Oscar winners is Monuments Men with Cate Blanchett and George Clooney. That would mean one of the unmatched answers is Syriana or The Aviator.

30. This movie was a stopover on a journey that went from Lillian Gish to Cicely Tyson.
This is THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL. Lillian Gish originated the role on TV, and Cicely Tyson played it on Broadway last year.

86. It was the last of five feature films in an eight-year period adapted from the works of the same English novelist, and the third by the same director.
How about EM Forster and James Ivory?
The first two were A Room with a View and Maurice. The other two Forster would be A Passage to India and Where Angels Fear to Tread.
That would make this HOWARD'S END with Oscar winner Emma Thompson.

I don't think any of of the unanswered ones is either Syriana or The Aviator.silverscreenselect wrote: I'm still not convinced this is right, because for it to work with Jean Dujardin, then the only other movie he's been in that has other Oscar winners is Monuments Men with Cate Blanchett and George Clooney. Re: Game #145: It’s the Right Time For a Movie Game
I can come up with a couple more like this:mellytu74 wrote:3. SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK
4. ELMER GANTRY
Jennifer Lawrence + Shirley Jones = Jennifer Jones, another Oscar winner.
It doesn't MEAN anything, mind you. I am just doooodling.
15. AIRPORT (Helen Hayes) + 54. THE YEAR OF LIVING DANGEROUSLY (Linda Hunt) = 72. DR. T AND THE WOMEN (Helen Hunt)
112. ALICE DOESN'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE (Ellen Burstyn) + 30. A TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL (Geraldine Page) = 75. JUNO (Ellen Page)
With Supporting actors and multiple awards for the same movie we may have enough Oscar winners to have two per group (116 total). If Ellen Page is correct, that means the third actor doesn't have to be an Oscar winner, so could possibly accommodate the Dracula movie and others.

Checking the Billy the Kid vs. Dracula cast, there is Bing Russell, so that links GOING MY WAY and THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES. I think Melly got it!

The problem with my original one is that I can't find a Jennifer Jones movie listed.smilergrogan wrote:I can come up with a couple more like this:mellytu74 wrote:3. SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK

I'm trying to get Grown Ups to work and I can't find anything that fits. Has anyone with a last name of James or Schneider every won an Oscar? (I'm pretty sure there aren't any Sandlers who have won Oscars).

And I did find the answer. Colin Quinn is in Grown Ups, and that matches Colin Firth and Anthony Quinn.silverscreenselect wrote:I'm trying to get Grown Ups to work and I can't find anything that fits. That Tangredi works for me... and that confirms my guess on #12.
68. JULIA (Vanessa Redgrave) + 83. GOOD WILL HUNTING (Robin Williams) = 12. SOUL FOOD (Vanessa Williams)

Jamie Kennedy was in Scream, so there's a match with George Kennedy (Cool Hand Luke) and Jamie Foxx (Ray). I had a hunch there weren't any Oscar winners named Redd to match with Redd Foxx.

Rod Taylor was in the VIPs, so there's a match with Elizabeth Taylor (Virginia Woolf - she was also in the VIPs but you can't match a film with itself) and Rod Steiger (Heat of the Night).

John Hurt was in Alien, so that matches with William Hurt (Spider Woman) and John Wayne (True Grit).

I never specifically said you couldn't match a film with itself -- although it's not going to happen in this game. However, in this case, you'd be using Elizabeth Taylor to form the name Elizabeth Taylor.silverscreenselect wrote:Rod Taylor was in the VIPs, so there's a match with Elizabeth Taylor (Virginia Woolf - she was also in the VIPs but you can't match a film with itself) and Rod Steiger (Heat of the Night).
I knew the matches would start coming pretty fast once the Tangredi was cracked.

Re: Game #145: It’s the Right Time For a Movie Game
My first thought was that Breaker Morant was on the list for Edward Woodward to match with Joanne Woodward, BUT, there's never been an actor named Edward who's won an Oscar.
Instead, Jack Thompson from Breaker Morant matches with Emma Thompson (Howard's End) and Jack Albertson (Subject Was Roses).
This got me to thinking about who Joanne Woodward did match with so I checked on Morgan Woodward's filmography (surprisingly Morgan Woodward is still alive, even though he looked ancient when he did those TV roles in the 60s most people remember him from, he was in his early 40s) and sure enough he was in Cool Hand Luke. As soon as I saw that, I remembered he was the guard with the mirrored sunglasses in the film.
So Woodward matches with Morgan Freeman (Million Dollar Baby) and Joanne Woodward (Three Faces of Eve).

Re: Game #145: It’s the Right Time For a Movie Game
The one answer on this consolidation with two alternatives does not include the correct answer. The other answers with question marks are correct.
Oh, and there's one incorrect parenthetical designation on the movie list that will screw you up. Go back to the original clue and it will be obvious what's wrong.
You don't need to be told that all the completed matches are correct. Ironically, you can stop looking for Jennifer Jones -- who unlocked the Tangredi -- because she's not here. I didn't use her because I have two different Jennifers on the list of winners, and I didn't want to confuse things.
