Lyrically Speaking - 2/12/14

#1 Post by Duh Mass » Wed Feb 12, 2014 7:51 am

I was so excited when LB let me have the chance to make up my own Wacky Wednesday game! I worked long and hard putting together the lyrics to some of my favorite songs that aren't on my Kidz Bop CD. I was so proud of my accomplishment when I handed the game in to LB, and he must have been quite moved by it as well as he promptly put the palm of his hand to his face and started shaking his head! "Are you stupid or something, Duh Mass?" he asked me. I cheerfully nodded my head and said, "Yes I am!" He started to wrinkle up my paper and file it in the wastebasket, then sighed and said it was too bad he was going to have to use my game anyway since there wasn't another one to replace it with... as if this wasn't the bestest LSWE game ever put together!

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist....

1. She's a Lover, baby and a fighter
Should have seen it coming when it got a little brighter
With a name like Dani California
Day was gonna come when I was gonna warn ya

2. Time can never mend
The careless whispers of a good friend.
To the heart and mind
Ignorance is kind.
There's no comfort in the truth,
Pain is all you'll find

3. On a warm summer's evenin', on a train bound for nowhere
I met up with the gambler. We were both too tired to sleep.

4. I've got a new age girl
(Tell us what she's like)
An environmentalist girl
(Does she ride a bike)

5. At least there's pretty lights
And though there's little variation
It nullifies the night
From overkill

6. Yeah, there was ham and there was turkey
There was caviar
And long tall glasses with wine up to hy'are

7. And I don't understand why I sleep all day
And I start to complain that there's no rain
And all I can do is read a book to stay awake
And it rips my life away, but it's a great escape

8. Oh well a touch of grey
Kinda suits you anyway
And that was all I had to say
And it's alright

9. Oh, there's a lot of opportunities
If you know when to take them, you know?
There's a lot of opportunities
If there aren't, you can make them
Make or break them

10. When I was sorry
It was too late to turn around (turn around)
And tell you so.
There was no reason
There was no reason
Just a foolish beat of my heart

11. When all the little ants are marching
Red and black antennae waving
They all do it the same
They all do it the same way

12. Now that she's back in the atmosphere
With drops of Jupiter in her hair
Hey, hey, hey, hey

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist Duh Mass could have put in this game, and include the lyric snippet he would have used for an extra point.

Mecca Bonus: Four songs in this game have been on the Mecca CD. Which numbers? (10 possible points)

5 Point Bonus: One of the four Mecca songs above has an acoustic version (which I hate) that is the one which is played on the CD. Which number song is it?

Dani California -- Red Hot chili Peppers

2. Time can never mend
The careless whispers of a good friend.
To the heart and mind
Ignorance is kind.
There's no comfort in the truth,
Pain is all you'll find

Careless Whisper -- George Michael

3. On a warm summer's evenin', on a train bound for nowhere
I met up with the gambler. We were both too tired to sleep.

The Gambler -- Kenny Rogers

4. I've got a new age girl
(Tell us what she's like)
An environmentalist girl
(Does she ride a bike)

New Age Girl -- don't remember the group

5. At least there's pretty lights
And though there's little variation
It nullifies the night
From overkill

Overkill -- Men at Work

6. Yeah, there was ham and there was turkey
There was caviar
And long tall glasses with wine up to hy'are

Long Tall Glasses -- Leo Sayer

7. And I don't understand why I sleep all day
And I start to complain that there's no rain
And all I can do is read a book to stay awake
And it rips my life away, but it's a great escape

Not sure I could sing the song, but I know there's a song called No Rain by Blind Melon, so I'm going with that.

8. Oh well a touch of grey
Kinda suits you anyway
And that was all I had to say
And it's alright

Touch of Grey -- Grateful Dead

9. Oh, there's a lot of opportunities
If you know when to take them, you know?
There's a lot of opportunities
If there aren't, you can make them
Make or break them

Opportunities (Let's Make lots of Money) -- Pet Shop Boys

10. When I was sorry
It was too late to turn around (turn around)
And tell you so.
There was no reason
There was no reason
Just a foolish beat of my heart

Foolish Beat -- Debbie Gibson?

11. When all the little ants are marching
Red and black antennae waving
They all do it the same
They all do it the same way

High Hopes, the lost lyrics -- Frank Sinatra

12. Now that she's back in the atmosphere
With drops of Jupiter in her hair
Hey, hey, hey, hey

Drops of Jupiter -- Train

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist Duh Mass could have put in this game, and include the lyric snippet he would have used for an extra point. Cover of the Rolling Stone -- Dr. Hook. "And we keep gettin' richer, but we cain't get our pitcher on the cover of the Rolling Stone."

Mecca Bonus: Four songs in this game have been on the Mecca CD. Which numbers? (10 possible points) 4, 6, 9, 12

5 Point Bonus: One of the four Mecca songs above has an acoustic version (which I hate) that is the one which is played on the CD. Which number song is it?

I seem to recall an acoustic version of PSB, and knowing your fondness for the 80s Farfisa stuff, I"m going to guess that you would hate an acoustic version of #9. #9. #9. #9. #9.

Personally, I prefer Duh Wait by Duh Band.
1. She's a Lover, baby and a fighter
Should have seen it coming when it got a little brighter
With a name like Dani California
Day was gonna come when I was gonna warn ya

Dani California

2. Time can never mend
The careless whispers of a good friend.
To the heart and mind
Ignorance is kind.
There's no comfort in the truth,
Pain is all you'll find

Careless Whispers

3. On a warm summer's evenin', on a train bound for nowhere
I met up with the gambler. We were both too tired to sleep.

The Gambler, Kenny Rogers

4. I've got a new age girl
(Tell us what she's like)
An environmentalist girl
(Does she ride a bike)

New Age Squirrel

5. At least there's pretty lights
And though there's little variation
It nullifies the night
From overkill

Pretty Lights

6. Yeah, there was ham and there was turkey
There was caviar
And long tall glasses with wine up to hy'are

Long Tall Glasses

7. And I don't understand why I sleep all day
And I start to complain that there's no rain
And all I can do is read a book to stay awake
And it rips my life away, but it's a great escape

Great Escape

8. Oh well a touch of grey
Kinda suits you anyway
And that was all I had to say
And it's alright

A Touch of Grey

9. Oh, there's a lot of opportunities
If you know when to take them, you know?
There's a lot of opportunities
If there aren't, you can make them
Make or break them

A Lot of Opportunities

10. When I was sorry
It was too late to turn around (turn around)
And tell you so.
There was no reason
There was no reason
Just a foolish beat of my heart

Beat of My Heart

11. When all the little ants are marching
Red and black antennae waving
They all do it the same
They all do it the same way

All the Little Ants

12. Now that she's back in the atmosphere
With drops of Jupiter in her hair
Hey, hey, hey, hey

Drops of Jupiter, Train

Duh Mass

Wham!

Nope

5. At least there's pretty lights

Men at Work

6. Yeah, there was ham and there was turkey
There was caviar
And long tall glasses with wine up to hy'are

Leo Sayer (but take any Leo Sayer points and shove 'em up your ass)

Grateful Dead

There's a lot of opportunities

Make or break them

Pet Shop Boys - These guys used to put on a surprisingly (to me) theatrical show. I saw them on two occasions at Universal Amphitheatre. For some reason, the second time, their volume was louder than anything I'd ever heard (including Slade). I had to go to the venue offices and request earplugs.

10. When I was sorry
It was too late to turn around (turn around)
And tell you so.
There was no reason
There was no reason
Just a foolish beat of my heart

Nope

11. When all the little ants are marching

It's been one week since you looked at me
Cocked your head to the side and said "I'm angry"
Five days since you laughed at me saying
"Get that together come back and see me"

Because major, major clues were provided as to the title of these songs in the game, I was very strict on accepting titles! Short of possibly an added article, you had to have the exact main title of the song to get credit...

1. She's a Lover, baby and a fighter
Should have seen it coming when it got a little brighter
With a name like Dani California
Day was gonna come when I was gonna warn ya
Dani California - Red Hot Chili Peppers

2. Time can never mend
The careless whispers of a good friend.
To the heart and mind
Ignorance is kind.
There's no comfort in the truth,
Pain is all you'll find
Careless Whisper - Wham (Anyone who kept the "S" on whispers was denied credit...)

3. On a warm summer's evenin', on a train bound for nowhere
I met up with the gambler. We were both too tired to sleep.
The Gambler - Kenny Rogers

4. I've got a new age girl
(Tell us what she's like)
An environmentalist girl
(Does she ride a bike)
New Age Girl - Deadeye Dick (Has this song fallen into the dustbin of musical history? It used to be so popular...)

5. At least there's pretty lights
And though there's little variation
It nullifies the night
From overkill
Overkill - Men at Work

6. Yeah, there was ham and there was turkey
There was caviar
And long tall glasses with wine up to hy'are
Long Tall Glasses - Leo Sayer

7. And I don't understand why I sleep all day
And I start to complain that there's no rain
And all I can do is read a book to stay awake
And it rips my life away, but it's a great escape
No Rain - Blind Melon

8. Oh well a touch of grey
Kinda suits you anyway
And that was all I had to say
And it's alright
Touch of Grey - Grateful Dead

9. Oh, there's a lot of opportunities
If you know when to take them, you know?
There's a lot of opportunities
If there aren't, you can make them
Make or break them
Opportunities - Pet Shop Boys (I love the video for this song!)

10. When I was sorry
It was too late to turn around (turn around)
And tell you so.
There was no reason
There was no reason
Just a foolish beat of my heart
Foolish Beat - Debbie Gibson (How can a teenager write a song like this and essentially be written off by everyone as just another forgettable, disposable pop diva?)

11. When all the little ants are marching
Red and black antennae waving
They all do it the same
They all do it the same way
Ants Marching - Dave Matthews Band

12. Now that she's back in the atmosphere
With drops of Jupiter in her hair
Hey, hey, hey, hey
Drops of Jupiter - Train

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist Duh Mass could have put in this game, and include the lyric snippet he would have used for an extra point. - While I generously accepted all Kroxes, I appreciated more the ones that were in the spirit of this game... songs where the title is hidden somewhere outside the chorus and only appears one or two times in the lyrics...

Mecca Bonus: Four songs in this game have been on the Mecca CD. Which numbers? (10 possible points)

#1 - Dani California (Current CD)
#5 - Overkill (Winter 2013 and current CD)
#11 - Ants Marching (Fall 2013 CD)
#12 - Drops of Jupiter (Winter 2013 and Fall 2013 CD's... though on the latter, only the first 30 seconds or so are heard before it cuts off. Each CD except the Summer CD has had exactly one song cut off in the middle... the trained mix tape producers down in Bentonville are not exactly recording geniuses...)

5 Point Bonus: One of the four Mecca songs above has an acoustic version (which I hate) that is the one which is played on the CD. Which number song is it? - #5 - Overkill (I thought TBone might get this since he seems to be a fan of Colin Hay's solo work, and Hay covered the song from his old band acoustically a few years ago... though he guessed elsewhere. A couple people did blindly nab this bonus...)
