Lyrically Speaking - 2/3/14

#1 Post by Gimme A Squiggly » Mon Feb 03, 2014 7:29 am

As much as LB would like to think the music I play in all of my stores is meant to torture my slav... er, employees, in reality, it is just another way I try to appeal to the customer to get them to buy more of my useless shit that they don't need. Seasonal items are always a top priority to get into the shopper's cart.. and just like I play all that Christmas music in December (November as well in Kalamazoo) to get customers in the holiday spirit to buy high markup gifts, when I put together my Summer CD I am featuring in Mecca Mondays, I wanted to make sure a lot of the songs were in the spirit of the warm season. Coolers, barbecue grills, lawn dart sets, back to school items... that's what summer is all about at Mecca, and here are 12 songs from the Summer CD that are so.... Summer! Now... oh wait, excuse me...

1. All around, people looking half dead
Walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head

2. Well, the streetlights shine down on Blessing Avenue
Lovers they walk by, holding hands two by two
A breeze crosses the porch, bicycle spokes spin 'round
My jackets on, I'm out the door
And tonight I'm gonna burn this town down

3. Well, the girls are frisky in old Frisco
A pretty little chick wherever you go

4. So hard to find my way,
Now that I'm all on my own.
I saw you just the other day,
My how you have grown,

5. But I can see you-
Your brown skin shinin' in the sun
You got your hair combed back and your sunglasses on, baby

6. Well, it ain't got a back seat or a rear window
But it still gets me where I wanna go

7. Now fellas, you better watch your step
Don't let them teeny French bikinis
Make you lose your breath
Back to the ladies
Ya'll keep doing ya'lls thing
'Cause everything about you makes me wanna scream

8. Strange voices are saying
(What did they say)
Things I can't understand
It's too close for comfort
This heat has got
Right out of hand

9. And it's two bare feet on the dashboard
Young love and an old Ford
Cheap shades and a tattoo
And a Yoo-Hoo bottle on the floorboard

10. But the years went by and the rock just died
Suzie went and left us for some foreign guy
Long nights crying by the record machine
dreaming of my Chevy and my old blue jeans

11. You'd see 'em wearing their baggies
Huarache sandals too
A bushy bushy blonde hairdo

12. I used to think maybe you loved me, now baby I'm sure
And I just can't wait ‘til the day, when you knock on my door

Gimme A Squiggly

Summer in the City-- The Lovin' Spoonful

2. Well, the streetlights shine down on Blessing Avenue
Lovers they walk by, holding hands two by two
A breeze crosses the porch, bicycle spokes spin 'round
My jackets on, I'm out the door
And tonight I'm gonna burn this town down

So familiar. Not Mellencamp, so I"m thinking it's Springsteen. But I can't come up with a title.

3. Well, the girls are frisky in old Frisco
A pretty little chick wherever you go

4. So hard to find my way,
Now that I'm all on my own.
I saw you just the other day,
My how you have grown,

Brown Eyed Girl -- Van Morrison

5. But I can see you-
Your brown skin shinin' in the sun
You got your hair combed back and your sunglasses on, baby

The Boys of Summer -- Don Henley

6. Well, it ain't got a back seat or a rear window
But it still gets me where I wanna go

Surf City -- Jan and Dean

7. Now fellas, you better watch your step
Don't let them teeny French bikinis
Make you lose your breath
Back to the ladies
Ya'll keep doing ya'lls thing
'Cause everything about you makes me wanna scream

Summer Nights -- Rascal Flatts

8. Strange voices are saying
(What did they say)
Things I can't understand
It's too close for comfort
This heat has got
Right out of hand

Cruel Summer -- Bananananananananananananananarama

9. And it's two bare feet on the dashboard
Young love and an old Ford
Cheap shades and a tattoo
And a Yoo-Hoo bottle on the floorboard

10. But the years went by and the rock just died
Suzie went and left us for some foreign guy
Long nights crying by the record machine
dreaming of my Chevy and my old blue jeans

Crocodile Rock -- Elton John

11. You'd see 'em wearing their baggies
Huarache sandals too
A bushy bushy blonde hairdo

Surfin' USA -- Beach Boys

12. I used to think maybe you loved me, now baby I'm sure
And I just can't wait ‘til the day, when you knock on my door

Walkin' on Sun shine -- Katrina and the Waves

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that you would put on the Mecca CD to represent Summer. Moonlight Feels Right -- Starbuck. Can't remember the specifics, but I seem to remember Kasey Kasem talking about it winning the "ultimate summer song" vote.

5 Point Bonus: Name any BB on this Bored, other than yourself (if you would qualify), who was born during the Summer.

I know Cal and jbg are "twins," and I'm thinking they always talk about that shortly before my birthday, which is right after the autumnal equinox, so I'll say either one of them.
