Observations Backlog 653 - Kibosh

#1 Post by SportsFan68 » Sun Jan 12, 2014 2:10 pm

This observation is quoted with our thanks to Clem21 from a post of October 23, 2012.

They make them but I put the kibosh on that and you should shut them down because we do good work and we are a respectable profession.

Kibosh is a great word which I use frequently, usually in my head. Someone bids a slam, and I think to myself, "I'll put the kibosh on that!"

There were several excellent observations here on the Bored, and here's Clem's full post:

Activist Liberal Judges!!1

Postby clem21 » Tue Oct 23, 2012 7:59 am
I was fortunate enough to have the chance to speak to Justice Sonia Sotomayor recently and I thought I would share a small piece of conversation I had with her:

Me: "If I become a Supreme Court Justice, do people stop making lawyer jokes?"
Justice Sotomayor: "They make them but I put the kibosh on that and you should shut them down because we do good work and we are a respectable profession."
Me: "What if it's my mom?"
Justice Sotomayor: "You tell her that you have a Supreme Court judicial order for her to stop!"

Frankly, I think this liberal judicial activism of announcing declaratory judgments without consulting the full membership of the Court is extremely dangerous. I'm not sure what effect these comments will have on the general election, but I can tell you that when reached out to via email for comment, my mother released a statement saying: "I don't think so."

Update

Postby AlphaDummy » Tue Dec 04, 2007 9:01 pm
Hello again...

Still alive and posting here, which is a good sign. First and foremost, my boss continues to improve. He is walking a few steps now - the key word here is "few," although it is an improvement. Hand-eye coordination is also slowly improving. He is somewhat frustrated that his vision is not coming around as quickly as he would like. The frustration is to be expected, I guess; he was hoping to be able to do some stuff from his bed. Fortunately, his boss put the kibosh on that and told him to worry about himself rather than work.

Game #116 – Movie Special

Game #116 – Movie Special B-12.

This British actor drank his way out of the role of James Bond … put the kibosh on a movie deal by vomiting on Steve McQueen … and made his final film more expensive by dropping dead shortly after consuming three bottles of rum and eight bottles of beer.

Take a kitty camping...

Postby SportsFan68 » Sun Jun 08, 2008 12:30 pm
I have this nutty redheaded friend, and like most baby boomers who watched in awe on July 20, 1969, she thinks anything is possible.

She didn't want to leave her 10-week-old kitten home, so Ziva got packed up into her carrier, kitty food, bed, and litter box were all appropriately stashed, and away they went.

It went extremely well. Casey thought one time about herding her, but we put the kibosh on that. Now Ziva thinks that camping is a regular activity for herself and her big sisters, all of whom just happen to be canine people in year-around fur coats.

I hope they keep bringing her, who knows when Casey will need help keeping the heffalumps out of camp.

You propose to do that by posting in it?

He doesn't scare me.

Bill Belichick scares me.
