Odd WW1 Question

#1 Post by Spock » Sun Jan 12, 2014 11:28 am

Out of the blue-Nathan asked me today="How did they get the barbed wire up in No-Man's Land?"

Oddly enough-I had recently read a WW1 book and the same thought had crossed my mind.

So, How did they get the barbed wire put up?

As someone who has strung miles of barbed wire-It is not easy even when you are not yards away from people shooting at you.

I think one generally retreats behind barbed wire protecting a fall back position, or advances till stopped by your opponents defenses. Your commander dreams of a break through and advancing faster than the enemy can dig in.
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Wiring parties, as described in book and movie All Quiet on the Western Front

Night time. They installed it at night.

I've run out a lot of barb wire. I think if somebody was shooting at me I could go pretty fast.
