Working on anything fun?
I just finished a top and took it to the long-armer for basting. I want to hand-quilt it. It's for a great nieces wedding in October, so I've got some time. The fabrics were all batiks and the pattern was a modern take on a double wedding ring- no curved seams! Need to start a baby quilt soon for a new great-great niece or nephew due in the spring!

How nice to have a snow day.
How is Connecticut when it comes to clearing the interstates, and your town with clearing your neighborhood streets?

Re: No work today
I finished a quick quilt for a co-worker who was had a baby recently with a twin quilt for another team member. The second one is pieced but not yet quilted. I switched the borders just to distinguish them. I will put it in the avatar since I I only have the picture on Facebook.ksbirchtree wrote:Working on anything fun?

Today I did some quick quilting of 6 small wall-hangings of a cardinal in a pine tree with the word JOY. I still have to bind them but I printed out a method of machine binding that I will do later.
I have attempted to hand quilt things but have only done small items. Just too much for me to take on while working full time. Maybe if I did it more, my speed (and skill) would improve enough. Sigh.

I haven't attempted to hand-quilt something this large either (85 x 95). But I've got time, so this will be good practice! At least that's what I'm telling myself.

However since we have a few major interstates they are pretty good. They keep 95jo with the loval gas company. He , 84 and 91 passable in even the worst storms. Secondary roads are not bad. In recent history, including some really heavy snowfalls, the most we have had to wait was about 8 hours after the worst of the storm. We are on a residential street so there is no emergency concerns.
Quick funny story, our neighbor across the street has a job with the local gas company. He is often on call for emegencies. One of the larger snowfalls last year, our street had not yet been plowed when I guess they needed him at work. The Gas company sent a front end loader to get his section of road cleared. But they stopped at his house so people would turn down the street, get to his house, be confused by why there was a wall of snow, turn around in his driveway and then head back. Entertaining for us watching from across the street.

I was in grad school in Connecticut during the February 1978 blizzard. I still remember Gov. Grasso closing the state, and the National Guard troops who cleared the roads.

I stayed home today, too. We got about a foot of snow, but no problem getting rid of it with a snow blower.
It's so damn cold! Single digits without the wind chill cold.
I'm waiting for a new round of edits so this may work out just fine.

They're having record highs in New South Wales.

Re: No work today
We're under a wind chill advisory until Tuesday. They are saying that it hasn't been this cold (negative windchills) since 2007. School is SUPPOSED to open after the holiday break on Monday, but I don't think that will happen-we're also under a winter storm watch. I think that kicks in either tomorrow afternoon or Sunday. There were already lots of people at the grocery store, stocking up.
They had a fire at a minor league ballpark near Grand Rapids today. How a fire could START in this weather is beyond me. Fortunately nobody was hurt while putting the fire out. It caused lots of damage to part of the stadium, but the team owners are saying they will repair the damage and have it ready for opening day on April 8th.

I'll be going to work tonight even though anywhere from 6 to 12 inches of snow is expected to fall while I'm there....
So if you don't hear from me tomorrow, you will know where I am....

Re: No work today
They upped the "winter storm watch" to a warning this morning. It's in effect from now until 1:00 am on Monday. I heard we could get at least 8 inches of snow-and maybe more.
I went to my local Mecca store earlier this evening and it was busy!! The parking lot was full and it took my mom a while to find a place to park. We saw lots of people in the store (probably stocking up on food and supplies)
My brother, who is a ski patroller, said it was very cold at the ski area last night. He was smart and wore lots of layers. He's out there again tonight-I hope he doesn't get frostbite.
