OAKLAND, CALIF. – Harold Camping, the California preacher who used his evangelical radio ministry and thousands of billboards to broadcast the end of the world and then gave up public prophecy when his date-specific doomsdays did not come to pass, has died at age 92.
We should all be ready for Judgment Day, just don't expect even the six seconds warning that the dinosaurs got as the asteroid streaked through the atmosphere
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

That begs the question -- would you rather know that "doomsday" is coming at some point in the imminent future (date semi-certain), or would you rather have it happen without warning (bang, it's over)?

I am satisfied with this
But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
Mark 13:32

Kinda of like never telling your teenagers exactly when you will be coming home.

Genesis 49:1-2 wrote:Then Jacob called for his sons and said: “Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days. Gather yourselves together, and hear, ye sons of Jacob; and hearken unto Israel your father."
The rabbis explain why Jacob summoned his sons twice. The first time, he was about to reveal the end of days to them, so God momentarily withdrew the gift of prophecy from him.

Exactly. There's a word for claiming you know what Jesus said even he didn't know, and that word is HUBRIS.

Poor fool... he should have taken lessons from me on how to conduct a doomsday prediction!

In the new season of Lillyhamer there is a scene of a doomsday cult failing and Torgeir and Roar's mother leaves in disgust.

In an unrelated matter Viktoria Winge as Tiril later convincingly advocates reindeer racing. There are no Rainbow Reindeer involved in the racing.
