Observations December 17, 2013 - Pinnacle

#1 Post by SportsFan68 » Tue Dec 17, 2013 12:09 pm

Today's observation is quoted with our thanks to MrKelley23 from a post of May 23, 2008.

Those kids whose parents make the loudest, longest noises seem to be the ones for whom high school graduation is the absolute pinnacle of their lives.
-- In Iroquois society, leaders are encouraged to remember seven generations in the past and consider seven generations in the future when making decisions that affect the people.
-- America would be a better place if leaders would do more long-term thinking. -- Wilma Mankiller

Sometimes there are several excellent observations on the Bored using Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day, and pinnacle was an example of this. Usually I just pick the one I liked the best, or the one which had the best use in context, or the one which avoided any mention of mangy rodents, and I move on. Pinnacle had two excellent uses, so I decided to cite them both, one as the "official" observation today, this one, also by MrKelley, plus the one I thought of if I'd had to write it myself.

Thanks to MrKelley23 for this observation from a post of June 13, 2010.

I certainly have blown my share of calls, but I don't understand a guy who does this for a living, and who has reached the pinnacle of his profession, being so consistently bad.

Tonight, I'm sure there will be a winner for the nearly half-billion MegaMillions prize because I'm sure that every possible combination will have been sold by then, and many of us will believe that the winner has reached the pinnacle of his life, but every time I think of it, I worry about the unintended consequences which will arise and maybe make it not such a pinnacle after all.
