Clarice came so close to figuring this out. If she had known that the Burning of Washington was during the War of 1812, or reasoned that Washington, D.C. wasn't around during the Revolutionary War, she wouldn't have had to jump. (Maybe she thought the British burned Gen. Washington.)

Where the hell did these writers go to school? Not only is a company not a "they," the two past tenses don't even match.

This is why I can't watch this &@(%@%ing show anymore.

1.easy to figure out.

2. I didn't think it was "baseball gloves" because we had a trivia question a couple weeks back asking which American League team Nintendo is a majority owner of-it's the Seattle Mariners if you don't know. I figured since they own the team, they might own a factory that supplies them with the gloves. I use JTQ here.

3. easy.

4. easy.

5. Ugh. I was surprised the audience knew this one. I would JTQ and save the ATA for later.

6. easy to figure out.

7. no idea. I use my final lifeline-ATA and hope. If they don't come up with good numbers, I walk.
I'm just a game show nerd.

I usually feel your pain, but I don't follow you on the past tense complaint. How is this any different from something like:
"Although you joined the board recently, you have been aware of it for years."
Makes sense to me.

It's the "while" that makes the present perfect in the main clause. It suggests that all the action of the subordinate clause was over in the past and, therefore, there is no connection to the present. They could have fixed it by saying "although" instead.

The Supreme Court says a company is a "they". :P

I think they are using "while" as a conjunction, definition 2.

While I get your point, I didn't think the question was as bad as some others I've seen.

That's the way I read it. Using "although" instead, however, would have removed any ambiguity.
