CSLS 11/25: Special Guest Edition

#1 Post by Jack Webb » Mon Nov 25, 2013 7:07 am

Narrator: The post you are about to read is true. None of the names have been changed because no one is innocent

[voiceover] My name is Friday and I’m a cop. An internet cop. . .

Image

and this is my partner, Elwood

Image

Friday[voiceover]: We had been patrolling The Bored for over three weeks and we watched carefully as low-life CSLS host Weasel rolled out one tired episode after another from his pool of equally insipid BBs. One guy just wanted to pimp his books, if you can believe that. Regardless, I knew what was coming.

Image

Elwood: It's November, 25, Joe. Your day to host. Are you ready?

Friday: After seeing this month's competition, how could I not be ready? I mean, what a pathetic bunch.

Image

Elwood: Come on, Joe. Lighten up. LS is not a contest. LS is for everyone and by everyone. Even I hosted. Crowd-sourced, remember?

Image

Friday: I remember. Maybe I'm just a little anxious.

Image

Elwood: So what's your angle, Joe? Match-em-up? Common word? Some theme no one can figure out? What's officer Friday's angle?

Image

Friday: Okay, folks. Here we go. One point for the title and one for the artist. Five points if you provide another song similar to the others. I call it an Elwood bonus. If that gutter mouth punk Krox doesn't like it, he knows which donut shop I frequent.

No need to guess the theme, because here it is:

Crime Doesn't Pay!

1- I miss my baby and I feel so sad
I guess my race is run
She's the best girl that I ever had

2- Hangman, hangman, hold it a little while,
I think I see my brother coming,
Riding a many mile.

3- And I've got such a long way to go
To make it to the border of Mexico

4- There I was completely wasted, out of work and down.
All inside it's so frustrating as I drift from town to town.
Feel as though nobody cares if I live or die,
So I might as well begin to put some action in my life

5- Shifty Henry said to Bugs, "For Heaven's sake
No one's lookin'; now's our chance to make a break"
Bugsy turned to Shifty and he said, "Nix, nix
I want to stick around a while and get my kicks"

6- Well, if they freed me from this prison
If that railroad train was mine
I bet I'd move out over a little
Farther down the line

7- They used to laugh about dyin',
But deep inside 'em they knew
That pretty soon they'd be lyin'
Beneath the ground together
Pushing up daisies to welcome the sun
And the morning dew.

8- He jacked a little bitty baby
The man has got to be insane
They say the spell that he was under
the lightning and the thunder
knew that someone had to stop the rain

9- After Appomattox they were on the losing side
So no amnesty was granted
And as outlaws they did ride
They rode against the railroads,
And they rode against the banks
And they rode against the governor
Never did they ask for a word of thanks

10- He don't give a hoot of warning
Wrapped up in a black cat cloak
He don't go in the light of the morning
He split the time the cock'rel crows

Elwood bonus: Name another song which features the forces of good against evil (five points):
Just the facts, ma'am.

1- I miss my baby and I feel so sad
I guess my race is run
She's the best girl that I ever had

I fought the law, and the law won. . . . This is old. I'll guess Johnny Cash covered it at some point.

2- Hangman, hangman, hold it a little while,
I think I see my brother coming,
Riding a many mile.

3- And I've got such a long way to go
To make it to the border of Mexico

I hate when this happens. I can hear that couplet distinctly but no farther. Ah! Ride like the wind! I just have to homulate a little bit more, and I'll get the artist.

Ride like the wind, Christopher Cross

4- There I was completely wasted, out of work and down.

If that railroad train was mine

Farther down the line

Folsom Prison Blues, Johnny Cash. Uh oh. Well, I'm not changing my guess in #1. Another game used the Beatles twice.

7- They used to laugh about dyin',
But deep inside 'em they knew
That pretty soon they'd be lyin'
Beneath the ground together
Pushing up daisies to welcome the sun
And the morning dew.

The Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde. Dunno artist.

Isn't it ironic that I recognize so many songs about law-breaking?
1- "I Fought the Law", can't remember who did it originally, but The Clash have definitely covered it
2- pass
3- "Ride Like the Wind", Christopher Cross
4- "Breaking the Law", Judas Priest (and Harry was not wasted)
5- "Jailhouse Rock", Elvis Presley
6- "Folsom Prison Blues", Johnny Cash
7- "The Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde", Georgie Fame
8- "Janie's Got a Gun", Aerosmith
9- "Frank and Jesse James", the Everly Brothers
10- "Midnight Rambler", the Rolling Stones
Elwood bonus: Let's see how many BBs older than I am remember this comedy song... "The White Knight" by Cledus Maggard. I heard it during one of Casey Kasem's Top 40 countdowns on the '70s station. The twist to this song is that the cop is both good and evil!
"[Drumpf's] name alone creates division and anger, whose words inspire dissension and hatred, and can't possibly 'Make America Great Again.'" --Kobe Bryant (1978-2020)

"In times of crisis, the wise build bridges. The foolish build barriers." --Chadwick Boseman (1976-2020)

Just the facts.
1- I miss my baby and I feel so sad
I guess my race is run
She's the best girl that I ever had

2- Hangman, hangman, hold it a little while,
I think I see my brother coming,
Riding a many mile.

3- And I've got such a long way to go
To make it to the border of Mexico

Ride Like the Wind, Chris Cross

4- There I was completely wasted, out of work and down.
All inside it's so frustrating as I drift from town to town.
Feel as though nobody cares if I live or die,
So I might as well begin to put some action in my life

5- Shifty Henry said to Bugs, "For Heaven's sake
No one's lookin'; now's our chance to make a break"
Bugsy turned to Shifty and he said, "Nix, nix
I want to stick around a while and get my kicks"

6- Well, if they freed me from this prison
If that railroad train was mine
I bet I'd move out over a little
Farther down the line

7- They used to laugh about dyin',
But deep inside 'em they knew
That pretty soon they'd be lyin'
Beneath the ground together
Pushing up daisies to welcome the sun
And the morning dew.

8- He jacked a little bitty baby
The man has got to be insane
They say the spell that he was under
the lightning and the thunder
knew that someone had to stop the rain

9- After Appomattox they were on the losing side
So no amnesty was granted
And as outlaws they did ride
They rode against the railroads,
And they rode against the banks
And they rode against the governor
Never did they ask for a word of thanks

10- He don't give a hoot of warning
Wrapped up in a black cat cloak
He don't go in the light of the morning
He split the time the cock'rel crows

Elwood bonus: Name another song which features the forces of good against evil (five points): One Tin Soldier

Not a bad effort, given the current constitution of this Bored. Now on to the answers and points:

1- I miss my baby and I feel so sad
I guess my race is run
She's the best girl that I ever had
I Fought the Law - Bobby Fuller Four (and others)

Don't forget the important part, Bobby! "And the law won!" Sing it!

2- Hangman, hangman, hold it a little while,
I think I see my brother coming,
Riding a many mile.
Gallows Pole - Led Zeppelin

I happen to be a close personal friend of the hangman. He doesn't wait for anyone, Bob.

3- And I've got such a long way to go
To make it to the border of Mexico
Ride Like The Wind - Christopher Cross

You can run but you can't hide. We always get our man.

4- There I was completely wasted, out of work and down.
All inside it's so frustrating as I drift from town to town.
Feel as though nobody cares if I live or die,
So I might as well begin to put some action in my life
Breaking the Law - Judas Priest

When you drift into my town, partner and I will be waiting with a shiny pair of handcuffs, vagrant.

5- Shifty Henry said to Bugs, "For Heaven's sake
No one's lookin'; now's our chance to make a break"
Bugsy turned to Shifty and he said, "Nix, nix
I want to stick around a while and get my kicks"
Jailhouse Rock - Elvis

While you're in there, let's hope you run into an old jailhouse friend, Ben Dover.

6- Well, if they freed me from this prison
If that railroad train was mine
I bet I'd move out over a little
Farther down the line
Folsom Prison Blues - Johnny Cash

Brooks thought is was good to be free. Then he went all "Brooks was here!" on us. Loved it.

7- They used to laugh about dyin',
But deep inside 'em they knew
That pretty soon they'd be lyin'
Beneath the ground together
Pushing up daisies to welcome the sun
And the morning dew.
The Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde - Georgie Fame

Some criminals go out in a blaze of glory. Just as long as they go out...

8- He jacked a little bitty baby
The man has got to be insane
They say the spell that he was under
the lightning and the thunder
knew that someone had to stop the rain
Janie's Got a Gun - Aerosmith

I don't typically go for vigilante justice, but some folks get what they deserve.

9- After Appomattox they were on the losing side
So no amnesty was granted
And as outlaws they did ride
They rode against the railroads,
And they rode against the banks
And they rode against the governor
Never did they ask for a word of thanks
Frank and Jesse James - Warren Zevon (and others)

Outlaws as sympathetic figures? Not on my watch! Thank you, Robert Ford. Here's a bullet for the one you used.

10- He don't give a hoot of warning
Wrapped up in a black cat cloak
He don't go in the light of the morning
He split the time the cock'rel crows
Midnight Rambler - The Rolling Stones

I do my best work at midnight. Can't wait to slap the cuffs on this guy.

I'm ahead of Fan! That won't last, now that she's playing regularly.
-- In Iroquois society, leaders are encouraged to remember seven generations in the past and consider seven generations in the future when making decisions that affect the people.
-- America would be a better place if leaders would do more long-term thinking. -- Wilma Mankiller

I have been playing regularly all month, every two to three days. And a couple of the games I didn't play I read afterward and I would have bitten the big one. You're legitimately ahead of me!
Sharing smokes and a cup of joe with my friend, Insouciant Ruffian. Good times!
