17. ROBERT BYRD + 63. JOHN PAYNE + 71. Martha STEWART = Robert John (LION) + Payne Stewart (PANTS)

Robert John had the remake of The Lion Sleeps tonight

Had to look up little-known M & M boys, but the pretty undistinguished Kevin McReynolds and Carmelo Martinez helped the Padres to their first World Series in 1984. Carmelo must be the younger, because he will make Carmelo Anthony, of the New York Knicks.

Was there ever a MTM episode where Murray says the F-word?
The Mary Tyler Moore Show was set in MINNESOTA. Is there another word that might go with Bud Grant?

Now I'm thinking that Bud Grant isn't here at all. Instead, let's go with this:

19. Amy Carter + 43. Grant Hill + 38. Valerie Harper = Amy Grant (Heartbeat) + Hill Harper (New York)

That takes care of the one misplaced name, and also frees up MINNESOTA for Murray Slaughter. It puts Bud Abbott back in play.

I knew I knew this name, but I had to check to see who he is.

46. Jeremy Irons + 20. Kyle Chandler + 9. Dave Bing = Jeremy Kyle (Talk) + Chandler Bing (Monica)

This makes a third TALK match, so I'm figuring that our remaining wrong word match is probably Cliff Richard. Clark Howard and Jeremy Kyle seem much more suited to the word.

Speaking of which, I suggested this earlier, then for some reason backed away from it.

66. Cliff Robertson + 51. Richard Lewis + 10. Karen Black = Cliff Richard (????) + Lewis Black (F-word)

At this point, the correct answers should leap out at us if they're familiar name. But apparently they aren't, so I did some digging to finish one of the incompletes. I found a painter named Ralph Earl, who did a panoramic landscape of Niagara Falls. So --

70. Ralph Stanley + 75. Earl Warren + 15. Jimmy Buffett = Ralph Earl (Falls) + Warren Buffett (Invest)

Is there any chance the word EXPRESS in the word list is really supposed to be EXPRESSO?

Streamlined consolidation, with all the unsolved stuff at the top and the completed sets at the bottom.
Now I'm sure that most of you are sitting there, demanding that I check my math. "If there are 77 names and each can be used only once, you can't make 26 triplets because 77 isn't divisible by 3." Well, that's the Fireball twist this time around. You have to identify this clueless person on your own in order to complete the 26th and final triplet.

In the latest consolidation, all trios and partial trios are now correctly matched up thanks to your getting rid of another one of my red herrings (Bud Grant).

As for the associated words, the same two words that were misplaced in the last consolidation are still misplaced.
franktangredi wrote:Is there any chance the word EXPRESS in the word list is really supposed to be EXPRESSO?
No, EXPRESS is the correct word. I think I know what you're thinking, though. I think you want to put EXPRESSO with Cliff Richard, which is why you moved TALK from him to Jeremy Kyle. I should go ahead and tell you that it was an interesting switch because you took that word from a correct name to a correct name. Both Cliff Richard and Jeremy Kyle go with TALK. Clark Howard does not. He goes with a different word.

Double-checked this before posting to make sure I was right:

32. Debbie Gibson + 36. Allen Gregory + 41. Jesse Helms = Debbie Allen (Different) + Gregory Helms (Hurricane)

Hurricane Helms was a WWF wrestler.

Okay, that forced me to look up Clark Howard, and he hosted a show called Evening EXPRESS.

I also checked Felix Adler's bio, and discovered that the Felix Adler who founded the Ethical Culture movement may have been the most famous Felix Adler, but he wasn't the only Felix Adler. There was also a Felix Adler who wrote screenplays for the Three STOOGES.

And I looked this up, too. Ashley Abbott is a soap opera character who runs a cosmetics business. (Somebody knows way too much about soap operas!)

54. Shannon Lucid + 6. Elizabeth Ashley + 1. Bud Abbott = Shannon Elizabeth (Pie) + Ashley Abbott (Cosmetic)

So, with Melly's wrestling contribution and the Pastor's confirmations, this is all that's left.

Another one I should have gotten earlier.

Sax player Gator Jackson was Ruth Brown's husband (Mama, He Treats Your Daughter Mean).

His real first name is Willis

I found a POSTER artist named JEFFERSON WOOD. If that's half of a match, than there's a DAVID THOMAS, a VICTOR THOMAS, or an ALBERT THOMAS that goes with DADDY, NORTH or PORTER. Dave Thomas is Wendy's daddy, but he's usually not referred to as David.

Until someone tells me otherwise, I'm going to assign NORTH to Franklin Pierce.

IF ALL OF THE ABOVE IS RIGHT, then the mystery name slots in between 57. Victor Mature and 13. Albert Brooks, forming two names that each go with Porter.

I think he goes with one of the Porters. According to Wikipedia he was played by Porter Hall in "The Great Moment", a Preston Sturges film about William Morton, who introduced the use of ether for anesthesia. I didn't know Preston Sturges made any biographical films - but it's going on my Netflix list now.

So for the mystery person we probably need somebody whose last name is the same as a first name of someone whose last name is Brooks. Somebody Garth? Somebody Foster?

That's because you're thinking of the wrong David (Dave) Thomas... just like you guys were thinking of the wrong Felix Adler.

The mystery name does connect VICTOR Mature and Albert BROOKS, but neither name goes with Porter. You need to swap out Porter with one of the associated words in a trio that was found very early in this game.

The only other David or Dave Thomases I know are the SCTV actor who was one of the McKenzie Brothers with Rick Moranis and David (Clayton) Thomas of Blood, Sweat and Tears. Don't know how either of them (neither of which is a perfect match) would link to any of the remaining words.

I interpret what the Pastor said as meaning that Porter has to go with the person who now has an incorrect word - so that means David Thomas has to go with either Daddy or North.
In the 2nd consolidation, where one word was incorrect according to the Pastor, the correct derived names matched with words were:

William H. Macy (JERRY) + Gray Davis (RECALL)
Patrick Henry (STAMP) + Morgan Freeman (BUCKET)
Francis Marion (FOX?)
Louise Fletcher (NURSE)
Payne Stewart (PANTS)
Warren Buffett (INVEST)
Chandler Bing (MONICA)
Philip K. Dick (CASTLE)
Harrison Ford (SOLO)

So, I think one of those has to be replaced by Porter, and the replaced word has to go with the mystery person.

William H. Macy played Bill Porter in Door to Door. So I believe we're at this point:

57. Victor Mature + xxxxx yyyyy + 13. Albert Brooks = Victor xxxxx + yyyy Brooks

One goes with JERRY, the other goes with DADDY or NORTH

For the record, the only other David Thomas I know is the iron company mahoff of Crane Iron Works in Catasauqua, in the Lehigh Valley, which was one of the first cities/towns reinvented by the Industrial Revolution.

I thought it was too obscure to bring up and I don't see how any of the words would work anyway, but I thought I would throw it out, just in case.

I"m very late to this party, but has anyone suggested the Dave Thomas who founded Wendy's? His daughter, who now does the commercials, still refers to him as Daddy.
