1. Christ, you know it ain't easy
You know how hard it can be
The way things are going
They're gonna crucify me

2. You ask me for a contribution
Well, you know
We are doing what we can
But if you want money for people with minds that hate
All I can tell is, brother, you'll have to wait

3. How could she say to me
Love will find a way
Gather round all you clowns
Let me hear you say

4. It's been too long since we took the time
No-one's to blame, I know time flies so quickly
But when I see you darling
It's like we both are falling in love again
5. His rival it seems had broken his dreams
By stealing the girl of his fancy
Her name was Magil and she called herself Lil
But everyone knew her as Nancy

6. Love is the answer
And you know that for sure
Love is a flower
You got to let it, you got to let it grow

7. Better get yourself together darlin'
Join the human race
How in the world you gonna see
Laughin' at fools like me

8. But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new

9. Everybody's talking and no one says a word
Everybody's making love and no one really cares
There's Nazis in the bathroom just below the stairs
Always something happening and nothing going on

10. Rose and Valerie screaming from the gallery
Say he must go free
The judge does not agree and he tells them so-o-o-o
But as the words are leaving his lips
A noise comes from behind

11. Show me round your snow peaked mountains way down south
Take me to your daddy's farm
Let me hear your balalaika's ringing out
Come and keep your comrade warm

12. Once there was a way to get back homeward
Once there was a way to get back home
Sleep pretty darling do not cry
And I will sing a lullabye

13. So let it out and let it in, * *, begin
You’re waiting for someone to perform with
And don’t you know that it’s just you, * *, you’ll do
The movement you need is on your shoulder
14. Ah, people asking questions lost in confusion
Well I tell them there's no problems, only solutions
Well they shake their heads and they look at me as if I've lost my mind
I tell them there's no hurry, I'm just sitting here doing time

15. The dream is over
Yesterday I was the dream weaver
But now I'm reborn
I was the Walrus
But now I'm John
And so dear friends
You'll just have to carry on

Bonus: Who was #13 above written for? And what was the inspiration?

Super Bonus: What was the date that the artist featured above was murdered? 10 points, 5 for the Month/Day and 5 for the year. This one might be too difficult, I don’t know, but I remember exactly where I was when I heard this news, I suppose much like it was for my parents when JFK was shot, although that was much more of a shock and tragedy as far as our nation goes.

I'm not sure how I feel about surprises, but nonetheless, I'll give it a go. And I'll miss the bonus instrumental - I love instrumental music.

I was the Walrus
But now I'm John
And so dear friends
You'll just have to carry on
God - John Lennon

Bonus: Who was #13 above written for? And what was the inspiration?
Julian Lennon. Not sure what you mean by "inspiration" - Paul wrote the song to cheer up Julian when his parents split up.

I think it was December 8, 1980. My friend Mike Jasny wore a black armband every year on that day throughout high school, and it was right around Pearl Harbor Day but not the exact day. I think it was the day after. The year, I'm sure of.

Weird. I think I've got a perfecto, and I'm not by any means a Beatles-o-phile. I've always argued that the Stones were by far the better band. (And, of course, I was right.) OTOH, I'm a huge John Lennon solo fan - like his solo stuff a good deal better than I like the Beatles.

Well, the featured artist is John Lennon.

December 10 (?), 1981. And I don't remember where I was when I heard the news, although I do remember where I was and what I was doing when JFK is shot. My age cohort are probably the youngest people who can say that. By contrast, I don't have any personal memories of the Cuban Missle Crisis, a year earlier.

I'm gonna finish, but I'll take a zero if that's the ruling of the meistrix.

2. Revolution - Beatles
3. You've Got To Hide Your Love Away - Beatles
4. Starting Over - John Lennon
5. Rocky Raccoon - Beatles
6. Nope
7. Instant Karma - John Lennon

Super Bonus - It was December 8, 1980. I was two weeks away from my 14th birthday. My parents had let me stay up to watch the first quarter of Monday Night Football, but I had gone to bed before the announcement. My mom told me the next morning. I don't know if it was because I was too young, but it was more of a "Wow" moment for me rather than a complete shock thing.

I thought there might be some big scores today, especially with the extra songs, and I was right. Lest anybody think I was specifically favouring my Beatles & Bills Bud tbone by doing this one, remember that when this game originally ran, tbone was kind of an unknown entity on the board, believe it or not. I think this might have even been the first board game he fully played (I think he started posting some answers during eyegor's game the previous month). If I'm right, then you can all thank me for tbone opening the door all the way and becoming the posting machine that he is today. At least that's the story I'm sticking with. Ha!

I also seem to remember saying at the time that the reason this one was expanded to 15 questions was that I couldn't leave it at ten and put in all my favourites, while still using enough Beatles songs to have artist points.

1. Christ, you know it ain't easy
You know how hard it can be
The way things are going
They're gonna crucify me

THE BALLAD OF JOHN & YOKO - BEATLES

2. You ask me for a contribution
Well, you know
We are doing what we can
But if you want money for people with minds that hate
All I can tell is, brother, you'll have to wait

REVOLUTION - BEATLES

Couldn't give half credit for Revolution #9, since that's a different song.

3. How could she say to me
Love will find a way
Gather round all you clowns
Let me hear you say

YOU'VE GOT TO HIDE YOUR LOVE AWAY - KRISTY LEE COOK f./ BRIAN EPSTEIN

4. It's been too long since we took the time
No-one's to blame, I know time flies so quickly
But when I see you darling
It's like we both are falling in love again

(JUST LIKE) STARTING OVER - JOHN

5. His rival it seems had broken his dreams
By stealing the girl of his fancy
Her name was Magil and she called herself Lil
But everyone knew her as Nancy

ROCKY RACCOON - BEATLES

6. Love is the answer
And you know that for sure
Love is a flower
You got to let it, you got to let it grow

MIND GAMES - JOHN

Half credit if Mind Games was in there

7. Better get yourself together darlin'
Join the human race
How in the world you gonna see
Laughin' at fools like me

INSTANT KARMA (WE ALL SHINE ON) - JOHN

Half credit for just the parenthetical

8. But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new

IN MY LIFE - BEATLES

9. Everybody's talking and no one says a word
Everybody's making love and no one really cares
There's Nazis in the bathroom just below the stairs
Always something happening and nothing going on

NOBODY TOLD ME - JOHN

Half credit for some variation of Nobody Told Me

10. Rose and Valerie screaming from the gallery
Say he must go free
The judge does not agree and he tells them so-o-o-o
But as the words are leaving his lips
A noise comes from behind

MAXWELL'S SILVER HAMMER - BEATLES

11. Show me round your snow peaked mountains way down south
Take me to your daddy's farm
Let me hear your balalaika's ringing out
Come and keep your comrade warm

BACK IN THE USSR - BEATLES

12. Once there was a way to get back homeward
Once there was a way to get back home
Sleep pretty darling do not cry
And I will sing a lullabye

GOLDEN SLUMBERS - BEATLES

I gave full credit for the medley, but no credit for just Carry that Weight

13. So let it out and let it in, * *, begin
You’re waiting for someone to perform with
And don’t you know that it’s just you, * *, you’ll do
The movement you need is on your shoulder

HEY JUDE - BEATLES

14. Ah, people asking questions lost in confusion
Well I tell them there's no problems, only solutions
Well they shake their heads and they look at me as if I've lost my mind
I tell them there's no hurry, I'm just sitting here doing time

WATCHING THE WHEELS - JOHN

Half credit if you had Watching and Wheels in there

15. The dream is over
Yesterday I was the dream weaver
But now I'm reborn
I was the Walrus
But now I'm John
And so dear friends
You'll just have to carry on

GOD - JOHN

Not one of my favourite Lennon songs, but I love that verse and I thought it was quite fitting to wrap up Lennon Day
.

Bonus: Who was #13 above written for? And what was the inspiration?

JULIAN LENNON, HIS PARENTS' DIVORCE

I originally wasn't going to give tbone credit, but it was on the drive over to see Cynthia and Julian, so technically the drive was the inspiration (cause he really needed that extra 5 points today, huh?)

DECEMBER 8, 1980

A few people got the 5 points for the year, so it paid to take a guess, even if you didn't know the exact day.

Points

Tbone gets the high score of the day, while TLITF is just off the pace with a couple half credits. I did NOT dock points for his being incorrect about the Stones being better than the Beatles because (whisper) I might just agree with him on that one. Ha! Meanwhile, Galahad misses out on some points by not reading the opening.

Yay for ghost and spunky being back! I think Mel must be on vacation and I had to check twice to make sure that I didn't miss KT's answers.

Looks like a few LS games since then have given lb a couple more Beatles/Lennon tunes in his arsenal, tbone and ghost know what they know, while starfish and mike are a bit off their previous pace.

I think I can identify where the extra 30 points came from. I had a hell of a time coming up with Hey Jude, and I know that song has haunted me in past LS games, and likely this one 6 years ago. Add in the 10 point bonus, and that would add up to an extra 30....

BTW, I really love looking at the retro stats, even if I only played about half of the games. I will definitely be doing some retro games myself when I host my next LS since I know I have all my old scoring scattered throughout the 20 or so notebooks piled up on this desk....

I got a phone call halfway through preparing my answer and lost the post, then had to go to play trivia and promptly forgot I hadn't submitted. :-(

Being a big Beatles fan, I'm really sorry to have missed it, but c'est la vie.
