Snark aside, it seems like this is a pretty fuzzy question. Don't many animals have relatively short seasons when they're in heat? Just what does "only a few days" mean?

Complaints about the question aside, my hunch was right, because of past stories about how difficult it's been at the National Zoo to get the pandas interested in breeding.

So, they're making it easier to give money to charity and to keep a celebrity on the show, so what? The only reason it might be unfair -- and admittedly it's a big one if it's true -- is if they intentionally made the questions harder for the contestants who followed because they gave so much money away to charity.

I thought the questions for the contestant that followed Dr. Oz were unbelievably hard relative to how they've been all season.

Q 1: seemed obvious to me, but Dr. Oz almost blew it. Maybe because we're more familiar with the game play where "because they don't" phrasing is still going to give an important clue, as in "with that name, you'd except them to".

Q 2: EZ.


Q 3: I liked that Dr. Oz questioned the validity of one of their choices, even though eventually went with the even less valid right answer.


Q 4: No idea. Despite some of the answers being really silly names, well, so was the eventual right answer. I was leaning toward it as "least silly choice", but I'd have jumped here too.

Q 5: Obvious.

Q 6: No blinking idea. I'd have jumped.

Q 7: Obvious.

Q 8: Obvious.

Q 9: No idea. Pretty sure it's not lions, or it would have come up in numerous nature specials, which in recent eras seem to show lions mating, in fact. I would ATA here, but probably go home. Should have ATAed on Oz-name Q. Oh well.

Q 10: This has shown up on ER or similar show, rare though it is in real life. What bothered me was that Dr. Oz "reasoned it through" rather than just saying ""ossified" means "stone"". Doesn't he know that?

So, they're making it easier to give money to charity and to keep a celebrity on the show, so what?

So what?

First of all, I don't like celebrity contestants on the show at all, when there are plenty of regular folks still trying hard to get their chance. The official line is that "overexposure" killed Primetime Millionaire, but I think it was because they lost the dream that anyone could make it on the show, both by abandoning the Phone Game for auditions and by giving so many episodes to celebrity contestants.

Now, I have no objection to corporations deciding to be generous to charity. They can donate as much money to charity as they like! But don't corrupt "our" game by pretending that celebrity contestants have "won" that money, by giving them all sorts of advantages the regular contestants don't get. If celebrities bombs out, they bomb out. If they refuse to play under those conditions, fine! There are plenty of folks begging for the chance.
