Quick note: I fixed an important typo in the question when quoting it. The answers are correct.

There's a lot of math questions this season...or at least it seems like more to me. A question about the equator measured in marathons, and now this. I like it, especially since the death of the clock!
Me overthinking the answer
Simple elementary school trick: Numbers that are divisible by 9 have a sum of digits that is also divisible 9. Since 3 + 8 + 4 + 9 + 1 + 2 = 27, that's our answer. The other three answers fail.

Alternately, add 42,768 to all the answers, and the one that gives 427,680 (or ten times the original number) should work. Only an answer that ends in 2 would work. Or, only an answer that's about 38K would work, since 38K + 4K = 42K.

Or, of course, you could just start doing the math, note that 8 x 9 = 72, which ends in 2, and...once again...B is the only one that works.

Did Jennifer misunderstand the question? It asked for the fate of these people, not their names.

I had the right hunch, that dextrin was an artificial sweentener, but let's say I play it safe with a JTQ, here.

Similarly
Or 42,768 x 10 = 427,680 - minus about 40K = about 38K

Not true. 363,528 is also evenly divisible by 9.

Unfortunately for Jennifer, the mnemonic isn't for names but for the fates of the six wives. Too bad she had to use a lifeline.

I'd have to jump this one as well. I'm not familiar with dextrin. Of course now that I think about, it could be related to a weight-loss pill called Dexatrim.

Good grief. OK, 9 times 40 is 360,000. 9 times 2,000 is 18,000. We're up to 378,000. 9 times 800 is 7,200. So 378,000 plus 7,000 is right at B, final answer. Whew!
Question 8 - 9 Dirty Ice Cream

A. Cold Stone Creamery

I'm guessing that Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia is probably the best known "name" ice cream in the country. Speaking of ice cream, Basking Robbings Baseball Nut will be going away soon. I just read that it's been around since 1961, and I hope it lasts another 52 years.

Wikipedia wrote:Dexatrim is caffeine, ginseng, green tea, and DHEA (a chemical made by testes), and contains no dextrin. Dextrin is a carbohydrate that's not easily digestible. It's a starch-like substance (think "dextrose" - another name for glucose, or table sugar, which is a carbohydrate just like starch is) that's used for "crispness enhancing", as well as in glue and textile finishing.
Yum.

Fun fact - dextrose, or d-glucose, rotates polarized light to the right; hence the name dextrose. Its mirror image, l-glucose (yeah, they didn't name it 'sinister glucose') is indigestible - just like your right glove won't fit on your left hand, this molecule won't "fit in" the proper places to be digested.

This season has featured a bunch of gettable $100K questions, with the notable exception of the Legoland question from last week.

In English, it's pretty common to say "Lord God", and I'm pretty sure that the corresponding phrase is just as common in other languages. In Spanish and German, it comes out Herr Gott and Señor Dios, which could be translated back to English as Mister God. That makes it reasonable to believe that the same is true in Polish. At least more reasonable than Captain God, Dr. God, or Sergeant God.

Why not just 42,768*10=427,680 -42,768=384,912? Of course with the four choices you'd not to do the whole subtraction.

The easiest way to do this one is 8x9=72; therefore the answer ends with a 2.

So, as one who doesn't watch SyndiBAM much (hangs head)...

If I'd used my JTQ on #10 (only one I needed it on) and then on the 100K question ... what would happen? Would I get a new $100K question?

If you jump the $100K question, you go to the $250K question, just as in Round 1.

<br abp="679">If you jump the $100K question, you go to the $250K question, just as in Round 1.
In addition, in terms of risk/reward, it sets up an interesting situation. If you jump the $100K question, you don't "bank" the $100K. Your current walk-away incentive is the ~$68K (minus whichever question you jumped) from all the round 1 questions. However, the next question is still worth $250K. And the safety net is still $25K.

If you finish the first round with two jumps, then you can jump twice over $100K and $250K, and see the $500K question. Same deal - you win $500K for the question, walk away with $68K, or tumble down to $25K. You're risking only about $43K to win about $432K (as well as a peek at the million dollar question).

Unfortunately, that reward is mitigated because the highest level prizes are paid as an annuity or a much smaller lump sum.
