What do you call a pirate in a seersucker suit. These joke just write themselves.
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

At the only location outside of California and Colorado.

I'd JTQ also. Just as an aside, when elwing booked our first cruise I had the same thought - it's a "supposedly fun thing". Turns out I was wrong. I wonder why Wallace didn't like it?

ATA, and let's pretend they know it.

You don't have to wonder, you can read it! http://harpers.org/wp-content/uploads/2 ... 007859.pdf (It originally had a different title, "Shipping Out", but it's the same essay.)

I think I first heard about that essay from my boss (a huge Simpsons fan), when he was pointing out the significance of the the episode title, "A Totally Fun Thing Bart Will Never Do Again."

Did you see the movie?

I think everybody with any historical knowledge at all remembers that the embassy was taken over. If they hadn't escaped, it would have been shocking to make a movie that implied that they did. Having escaped, it's no surprise that they had CIA help to do so.

But the chase scene was pure movie nonsense. Let's not just show them peacefully boarding a plane, when we can pretend there was a split-second escape with pickups full of armed revolutionary guards chasing the plane down the runway as it's taking off!

I did not see the movie. I almost never see movies until they show up on network television. My loss, I know.
