It took nearly two years, but my middle grade book finally sold.

The publisher is sending the agent a contract and there still some small details to iron out, but it does include an advance, audio rights and some distribution. I'm not sure what the royalty rates are, but the agent will pound away at those.

The press is MB Publishing out of Maryland.

and they have several award-winning books on their shelves.

It all came down to one key point: the publisher absolutely loves Molly.

The long wait is over.

Are all of your book titles inspired by song titles, or just some of them? I think of Jimmie and Stevie Ray Vaughan as the Tick Tock Men. And James Brown as the Night Train. Not sure about Right Hand Rule. Maybe The Right Left Hand by George Jones.

Just some of them come from song titles (let's not forget Dizzie Miss Lizzie). I couldn't find an appropriate song for the theme of The Right Hand Rule, which was originally Finding Mr. Froth (definitely not a song). Publishers have the final say on titles, so I know they may not last.

They want this book release to coincide with MLB opening day, 2014.

Unfortunately, I may not get to keep the title because it's not "modern" enough.

It's a generic title since the publisher thinks Good Golly Miss Molly is not modern enough. We'll brainstorm for a title when edits are done (perhaps The Shadow Players). Hey, it's a good problem to have.

The "nice deal" referes to the advance size. Here is the key:

"Nice Deal" means under $50K;
"Very Nice Deal" means $50K to $99K;
"Good Deal" means $100K to $249K;
"Significant Deal" means $250K to $499K;
"Major Deal" means $500K and up.

So I got anywhere between $1 and $49,999. The actual advance is
